Lucas did get the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial award in 1992. I didn’t know Lucas got nominated for best director and best original screenplay for American Graffiti.
This was the same year Ray Harryhausen finally got his technical achievement award, which was long overdue.
The Oscar statue later came to life and battled Sinbad of course. 😉
