For one final time, I was trying to communicate that I felt the outrage over that part of the post was weird because in that part of the post, I only called him a weirdo, not anything more.

He’s definitely a weirdo, let’s not forget that he doesn’t understand the concept of female friends.

Even if you discount all the stuff about abortion, Mike Pence is a massive dick. And a weirdo. For God’s sake, he calls his wife “Mother.”

Heaven forbid! Probably watches MLP too!

Not saying he’s a stellar individual, but come on!

As we have MLP fans around here, that could be misinterpreted as a cheap shot at a forum member.

I’m pretty sure that was a post in support of chyron rather than a shot at him. Or at least a good-natured joke.

I don’t get so many people’s obsession with public figures’ infidelity.

I don’t really care as long as it’s consensual.

Of course when Republicans drape themselves in faux-religion and then do it, it makes them massive hypocrites on that front.

Faux-religion aside, if they’re willing to stab their lifepartner in the back for the cheap thrills of infidelity then I don’t trust them woth little old me’s best interests either.

You were being sarcastic about the splitting, obviously taking a jab at me with that comment.

I was being sarcastic but not necessarily jabbing at you so much as jabbing at myself. I don’t doubt that I have some kind of mental problem and I like to make fun of myself.

Sorry you feel that way.

Ok?

He could have said plenty of things that I would have taken issue with, I don’t see how that should be one of them.

Glad it was taken as intended. And glad to have an ally in ender. Nobody has a monopoly on strong emotions and convictions and I am in agreement with ender on this topic. moviefreakedmind’s post made me smile.

Yes, but some people have events happen in their lives that make an issue way more personal than it is for the average person.

I think we should all be civil and sensitive to others’ personal experiences. However, politics would soon become difficult to discuss if we totally avoid topics relating to our personal experiences.

I was simply urging caution and sensitivity.

You cannot assume that the topic doesn’t also have personal significance to me.

You’re right. But here is the difference. I KNOW it has personal significance to Frink. I DON’T know that about you. It MAY be true for you as well, but it is not 100% certain, yet. Now if you tell it does and you tell us your story, than the “maybe” switches to “100% certain”.

There should be no such need. I mostly stay away from talking about personal things. As long as people are being civil, no topic should be out of bounds.

Understood, but if you don’t wish to talk about it, there is no way to be 100 certain that a given topic is very personal to you.

As long as people are being civil, no topic should be out of bounds.

I never said the topic was out of bounds.

That is how I took it. _ender’s use of sarcasm did not escape me.

In any case, you guys don’t have to walk on eggshells around here for my sake. Even if cheap shots are made, I’d be likely to just meme at you or something. It’s continual shots or dogpiles that rile me up.

It wasn’t “I exclusively called him a weirdo,” it was meant to be more like “Jeez guys, you’re making too much of this; I only called him a weirdo.” It might have worked in spoken conversation but it can be misunderstood in writing. Like I said, inartful drafting.

I didn’t really intend to upset you so much. I just want to be clear, I feel that it is so easy to criticize a politician that is commonly disliked in that particular crowd that people get away with stupid ad hominem attacks far more. Sure, most here don’t like Mike Pence. I obviously agree with him on more than most of you, but he is still far too extreme and rigid in his views for my tastes, and I don’t care much for him either. Okay, so we’ve established that he’s unpopular, now we can criticize his ever stupid action!

I remember at the trough of W. Bush’s popularity, it seemed the media would latch onto everything he did as stupid or uncultured. Often, it was a misportrayal of actual events, or maybe it was just making a big issue out of little things. Nevertheless, I was amazed at how people would lambast him in every medium at every opportunity for every needless thing.

Even Donald Trump, whom I dislike at least as much as the liberals on this forum, is not imperfect at literally everything. I mean, he’s approaching that point, but there really comes a point where it is nothing more than just looking for more opportunities to dislike him in a room full of people who already don’t. It confuses real issues with childish fault-finding and makes everyone who jumps on board look like they are bandwagoning. Stick to the real issues, is all I’m saying.

Bit of British politics for a change:

UKIP leader Henry Bolton’s model girlfriend was caught texting racist things and by racist I don’t mean, slightly ill-judged, I mean full-on Nazi Doctrine stuff. She’s giving her charming reaction to Prince Harry’s new fiancee being a mixed-race American:

“I wouldn’t with a Negro”
“Her seed will taint our Royal Family”
“This is Britain, not Africa”

After announcing he would make a statement this afternoon, which everybody naturally expected to be his resignation, Bolton fronted it out and said he’d “Drain the swamp” in his party. Wow. His self-delusion is almost impressive. Whatever illness Trump has, Bolton must have caught it.

Well said, ender.

Particularly how certain views take on a popularity that shuts out dissent.

As for ignoring important issues, this caught my eye.
