I came upon that same post actually just yesterday when I was researching further (I haven’t tried the Opc option thing yet but I shall). I did look up new firmware for my drive too and found one (I was apparently one version behind) but when I tried to run it it said device mismatch or something. I looked that up and apparently there are two models of my burner and one of them doesn’t need to be updated and is already on the newest version for it (1.02) and won’t work with 1.03 for the other variation. I also don’t get write errors, though. It says that the sectors don’t match. I found one post that said this was because the drive and the burning program argue that certain clusters of data is located in different sectors than the other claims. Something like that.

I burned SW without a hitch. ESB ran into this error and wouldn’t finalize. ROTJ ran into the same error but DID finalize. Only part of the disc is readable. I’m just wondering if it was the discs themselves or if it was just an odd chance of this happening to any disc. I guess I won’t know until I experiment more which I’m going to do today. I’ll just buy more discs. I should have gotten a 10 pack, though. I just didn’t expect it to error out 2 times out of 3 as I thought I was taking all the proper precautions. I guess that’s just the nature of it, though.

Man, it seems that with every new technology it becomes less stable than the last. Used to be able to burn CDs at full speed without any problems (most of the time). Then DVD-R’s came out and you had to slow it down. Now we’re at BD-R’s and they error out on the slowest speeds two times out of three. Sigh.

EDIT 2: Just attempted another burn at 1x and it is indeed a limitation of the drive itself. Oh well. Guess I’m just going to be running into this from time to time. That’s too bad.

EDIT 3: Just finished another burn attempt at 2x for ESB and it was a success! I don’t know if the OPC function is what it or what. Will find out when I attempt ROTJ.

EDIT 4: Ok just finished ROTJ. It’s verifying now, but it seems that OPC option thing did the trick! Either that or I got really lucky. Really happy. Now I just need to get more discs to burn the last BD50 documentaries disc, but at least I got all 3 movies. 😃
