Help: looking for... MOSW/SPFX/From Star Wars to Jedi/Empire of Dreams

I’m new to this forum, so this might be a naive question, but I have looked around quite a bit and can’t quite figure this out. I’m looking for decent copies (e.g. 720p would suffice) of The Making of Star Wars, SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back, From Star Wars to Jedi, and Empire of Dreams. From what I understand on these forums, the best versions of the first two are ones put together by EditDroid. However, I can’t figure out how to locate these, or the other two, or if this information still holds (posts are quite old now). Is there a guide to finding the best versions of these documentaries? I have searched and browsed around here but haven’t found anything yet. Ideally I was hoping for something like the guide to the Despecialised Editions! Sorry if this is the wrong place/question/etc., please just kindly correct me. Thanks for any help.

Making of Star Wars, SPFX, and Classic Creatures are all on the Blu-ray. Empire of Dreams is on the bonus DVD from the 04 box set. FSWTJ is on the spleen and Usenet.

From Star Wars to Jedi is available on VHS and Japanese and French LD. I’ve been considering using the sources to rebuild the English version, but parts of it are only on VHS. The others are all disc, either the 2004 dvd or the 2011 BR sets.

There still isn’t a “best way” to watch FSWTJ and I hope somebody can create one someday.

From ancient analog video masters that look worse than any previous video release, sadly. The old docs were supposedly remastered for Japanese LD in the 90’s, but nobody apparently bothered to try and find those masters.

Thanks everyone for the very helpful responses. I’d previously found the FSWTJ ‘HD recreation’ on YouTube and watched it the other night, was pretty good. I was hoping maybe somewhere there was a higher res version of all the non-film parts of it, but it’s definitely watchable, and nice to have the HD Despecialised clips in it. I had not run across the FSWTJ video on the StarWars.com site or their official YouTube channels (and didn’t even think to search), so thanks for those as well. Nice to have the ‘original’, even if it’s visually inferior to Ben Phillips’s HD version.

As for the 720p YouTube links to the original three ‘Making of’ documentaries, those are exactly what I was hoping for, thanks! I’d only come across 480p versions on YouTube, these are much better. Getting the BluRay disks that contain them might be an option at some point, but I don’t have access to a BluRay player, so a bit of a problem. 720p is probably enough for me now. Will have a look out for the Empire of Dreams DVD.

Thanks again to all, most helpful.

They are included with the Digital Movies Collection through MoviesAnywhere.com, fwiw. Also, the streaming versions don’t have the baked-in 3:2 pulldown present on the Blu Ray.

Edit: Nevermind, only Classic Creatures is included with the streaming versions.

Hey all,

FWIW, a few years back I cobbled together a version of SPFX with all the deleted footage from the original 1980 broadcast. I sourced the Blu Ray as well as my old VHS master. I reincorporated all the Disney clips that were originally shown (before Star Wars was owned by Disney), as well as some “violence” in the kids’ stop motion projects. As far as I know I don’t seem to see these shots on any version that is now publicly available.
