The coins are dumb too. I’ll have to watch the scene again but I’d like to remove that bit if possible, which would also allow the removal of the dumb CGI alien that feeds the coins into him in the first place. I liked most of the humor in TLJ but that bit didn’t work for me.
With that said, I think I would have been fine with the walker scene if they never tore off the head, and just had a quick shot of him manipulating it via data port.

Really! Maybe everything you didn’t like in the movie are the only things I like.
I do think they went a little too far with BB-8 but not really out of character from TFA. (Oh no, are we going to now talk about whether the droids have been perfectly in character from movie-to-movie?)
