I’m pretty sure you meant “pair of socks confirmed.” 😉

How’d socks enter the conversation?

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

So, any thoughts on sounds that need fixing in ROTJ? Someone’s already mentioned Artoo’s beeps sounding very different from the other films.

Is this advocating the replacing of the ROTJ Artoo sounds? Because I always thought they were much better than the rest of the saga. I had forgotten how different they actually were until I went back and watched ROTJ again a while back. I think it sounds much better. Less cartoony? Little more real? Of course, Artoo’s sounds are classic and embedded in the fan psyche now so…I’m sure I’m in the minority.

I have noticed from my own use of them that the ROTJ beeps sound much more echo-y.

Remove the slapstick Ewok moments during the battle.

I watched Jedi recently with my daughters and the moment that got the biggest reaction from them in the whole movie was when the Ewok hits itself with the bolas. They were rolling around in hysterics.

I know that humour and comedy are often the first casualties of a fan edit, but Adywan I hope that you might be gentle when it comes to snipping away the moments of levity.

Star Wars is a family saga, and us oldies need to be reminded sometimes of the simple moments of comedy or cuteness that delight the young (and the young at heart). Smiles and laughter are part of Star Wars for me, and are one of the reasons why Star Wars works globally regardless of nationality (who knew that Britain’s biggest comedy export of last decade would be Mister Bean - slapstick humour, it’s lowbrow but there’s no denying it’s loved around the world and transcends language barriers). Slapstick and sight gags work globally, and Revisited is for a global audience.

And let’s also remember that the one moment from ESB Revisited that gets the most mentions and praise is the new gag you added, when the AT-AT falls on the Scout Walker. A moment of slapstick that Lucas himself would be proud of.

So be gentle when it comes to removing humour. We need laughter in the world!

This is adywan’s edit, he should remove whatever humor doesn’t work for him. Anyone who misses something he cuts always has the orginals…or can make their own.

Any fan project should be for the person making it first and for the rest of the world (globally, as you said) second.

I agree, but with The Last Jedi having so many wonderfully humorous moments (more belly laughs in that one than any previous Star Wars) and Adywan being a fan, I am hoping his opinion on keeping / or cutting comedy will lean towards the keeping.

I understand that the Chewie Tarzan roar is incongruous and ought to go, and I also agree that the Gonk Droid being tortured is a bit silly and could be cut. However, the throne room duel and the space battle are serious - the Ewok battle down on Endor provides the levity for that stretch of the film. I hope ‘Bolas Ewok’ and some of his other pals make the cut. They’re cute, and they’re funny. Embrace them for what they are, and let Ewoks be Ewoks!

My suggestions.

  1. Restore the deleted scene of Darth Vader in his meditation chamber calling out to Luke as he constructs his new green lightsaber. The scene seamlessly connects the opening Death Star sequence with the Tatooine rescue sequence, which seem disconnected in the theatrical version.

  2. Improve the pacing in the Tatooine rescue sequence. Cut the droid torture scene. Cut the song and dance routine. Cut the dancer falling through the trap door. Cut Leia haggling with Jabba over the bounty for Chewbacca. Cut the thermal detonator. Cut Leia bumping into wind chimes. Cut C-3PO warning Luke that he is standing upon a trap door. Cut the herd of Banthas. Cut the barge sailing over the sand. In general, trim the first act as much as possible.

  3. Boba Fett should use a flamethrower before dying valiantly.

  4. Restore the deleted footage of Yoda confessing, “Obi-Wan would have told you long ago, had I let him.”

  5. Replace the wallpaper background for the docking bay.

  6. Cut the Emperor’s surprise at Vader’s revelation that Luke is among the rebels on Endor.

  7. Since you will not edit the prequels, you should cut Leia’s description of her mother to eliminate a contradiction with Revenge of the Sith.

LUKE: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?

LEIA: She died when I was very young. (looks up) Why are you asking me this?

He looks away, in anguish.

LUKE: I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her.

  1. Cut Leia’s line, “Somehow, I’ve always known.”

  2. Keep all elements of the Special Edition ending other than Hayden Christensen playing Anakin’s ghost.

Does anyone know where to post suggestions? I know that is is Adywans edit and I don’t seek to meld someone’s personal artistic vision to fit to my own. I know that previously he has taken some suggestions and seen them through to fit into the final rendition, or at least found some inspiration of from them.

  4. The Dagobah scene should be transposed to before the Emperor’s arrival on the Death Star.
The order of events should be a) Vader’s arrival, b) Tatooine rescue mission, c) Luke’s visit to Dagobah,
    d) the Emperor’s arrival, and e) the rebel briefing. The Emperor’s prediction that Luke will seek out Vader is more meaningful after Yoda confirms they are father and son.

  5. Restore the deleted footage of Yoda confessing, “Obi-Wan would have told you long ago, had I let him.”

OK, well I feel dumb now. Lets start again.
I was looking at your list of changes and noticed you were thinking of having the rebels arrive in a Rogue One esque shuttle. I also saw that your preferred viewing set did included Rogue One (which I assume means you liked it) which is why I would like to suggest including a shield gate above Endor. My reasons for this are:
One, that It always seemed odd that the rebels needed clearance codes to lower the Death Star Shield so they could land on the planet.
Two, it seems to make far more sense that there was also a planetary shield (similar to the one above Scarif) which protected the shield base form orbital bombardment.
Three, there have been people that say that the detonation of the Death Star II should have caused massive debris and an extinction level event on Endor. which the presence of a shield which isn’t destroyed during the battle, would prevent.

I feel that this would tie in well with Rogue One and further cement it as part of the universe. I looked at the sense and I don’t think there would be an issue with any of the dialog, it also might make good explanation as to why the proton bombs dropped by the Y-wings resembled fireworks rather than destroying the ewok village (if of course that isn’t a part that you are cutting).

The only other suggestion is for your HD version of A New Hope: Revisited and that to replace the planet you had the Death Star hovering over, with Scarif. Other than that its all waiting hoping from me, and may the force be with you, always.

I’ve never had a problem with lowering the shield to get onto the moon, as the animation they show on Home One shows the shield touching the surface and going up to DS2. My impression is the shield is generated out from the dish a few miles, then is directed up. The Ewok tribe they meet on the surface just happen to be now stuck in this bubble, giving them all the more reason to join the fight.

Don’t know if possible (but could be since Adywan plans to shoot nex scenes): when the rebels get on the ground, show Ewok dead bodies to stress the fact they already are imperial victims.

OK, so I was exaggerating when I said I always had a problem with it. The scene does work as is, but I still think that my other reasons stand. It does seem like a massive inconvenience to lower the whole shield. It would also create an feeling of isolation as once the strike team lands, they are totally cut off form any outside help. I’m not certain but I believe the coms did’t work through the shield either (in RO) and I don’t think that anyone from the strike team (in ROTJ) contacted the rebel fleet during the whole battle. With hindsight (If I’m right) that seems naive as it communication is key in battle especially if the plan as not worked. But this would make sense if they actually couldn’t communicate.
But hey that my last word on this subject.

Has anyone edited Luke’s lightsabre scene to make it look like he’s in Ben’s hut?
Is there an edit where Leia isn’t Luke’s sister and he says he needs to find this newly revealed sibling when talking to Leia?
Also, the footage of Ben revealing more about Anakin reintegrated?
The same with Yoda saying he didn’t Ben tell Luke earlier.

This isn’t a general catch-all edit thread.

Gosh there are a lot of posts here, so I am probably repeating (sorry) but two things that stuck out to me in the list that I think you should NOT do:

Ewok eyes - they SHOULD blink. Greedo and others got to blink in revisited and it’s arguably a more important feature for the “lovable” Ewoks

The Dug in Jabba’s palace - I think it should be kept, similar to putting in the shot of the battle droid in ANH, it’s good for connecting the prequels texturally (or whatever)

I’m not against blinking Ewoks, but the Blu-Ray ones look creepy and unnatural.

As for the dug, it doesn’t make sense simply because it’s the only creature that isn’t asleep, and that scene kind of relies on everyone being asleep for Leia to sneak in unnoticed.

I don’t see why a random scene in ROTJ has to connect to the prequels anyway.
