I haven’t read Under the Dome yet. The first season of the show was good but it kind of went downhill after that. I’ve heard great things about the book.

OMG that show is the worst. It had some potential in season 1, despite the terrible dialogue and acting. It got so ridiculous by S3 I stopped watching, then it got canceled.

I stopped sometime before S3 too. The concept kept it interesting for me in spite of all the bad production and acting. For some reason I thought that it was just a Stephen King idea made into a show until recently when I realized it was a book. I have it on my list.

I love Cujo. Interesting no one has mentioned it yet; it’s classic Stephen King.

I’ve seen the movie and could’ve sworn I read the book.

I consider King one of my favourite authors, though I haven’t read most of his novels; I pretty much became a fan through his short story collections.

Same here. I’ve read his older short story collections multiple times (I think I’ve read them all but The Bazaar of Bad Dreams), but haven’t read many of the “required” novels. There’s something about the way he can build a whole world you can understand in just a few pages, but sometimes I find his novel output to be too much of a good thing.

I guess I’ve read

  • The Stand (extended)
  • The Dark Tower (1-4)
  • Cycle of the Werewolf
  • The Talisman
  • The Eyes of the Dragon
  • The Tommyknockers
  • The Dark Half
  • Needful Things
  • Dolores Claiborne
  • Insomnia
  • The Green Mile
  • Desperation
  • The Regulators
  • Bag of Bones
  • The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
  • Lisey’s Story (didn’t finish)
  • Duma Key
  • Under the Dome (didn’t finish)

Looking at the bibliography, I guess I ended up reading almost all of his 90’s output. That’s probably because my mom would read the books then let me read them. As a homeschooled Christian high schooler, I was always shocked by that.

Supposedly It, the movie, will be released in an extended Director’s Cut about 15 minutes longer than the theatrical when it makes it to blu-ray. I liked the movie quite a bit so I’m interested in this I guess. I hope that they also change some things like the jump scare sound effects that weakened a few of the good moments.

I was under the impression that the extended cut was going to be a composite cut of Part I and II as one long-ass movie after II is released, with additional footage added to both. I also heard that they were filming additional scenes for Part I that they didn’t have time/money for the first time around while filming Part II, but I’m not certain of either of those things.

I’m definitely interested in that.

This is what I was going off of:

So apparently there isn’t a director’s cut of IT for the blu-ray/digital release. That’s unfortunate but I think we’ll get one eventually since the director and producer confirmed in an interview that Warner Bros. had assigned them the task of doing one. Maybe they’ll rerelease it for the next movie. I can’t imagine they would say that and then decide not to do it.

I think it’ll happen, but not until part II is out, at which point we’ll get a 4.5-hour combined extended cut of both movies as one.

That or they’ll double-dip and put the extended cut of part I out right before part II hits theaters, as you say…

I’ve heard the director say in interviews that he’s filming some flashback scenes with the Part I cast, which makes sense since the cast was the most positively received aspect of the film and every character but Pennywise will have to be recast in Part II. What worries me about the prospects of an extended cut is that they have included fifteen minutes of deleted footage on the upcoming bluray, which is how much longer the supposed director’s cut was supposed to be, so maybe they just gave up on it. Hard to say, I just hope that we get one, and I’m sure we will because this bluray release has a really small amount of bonus material and doesn’t have a commentary track or the director’s cut that the director himself said he was commissioned by the studio to make and this movie was so successful that they’ll surely want to give it a definitive release at some time.

I’m about to start the Stand. I’ve got the “Complete and Uncut” version. From my understanding it’s the best. Obviously Star Wars and the George Lucas shenanigans make me weary of revisions, but from what I’ve read King did a fair job with this.

I’ve only read the uncut version, but my mom swears by the original. She thinks the uncut version is too bloated.

For my money it’s one of King’s best works, so YMMV.

Supposedly, according to King’s intro, the additions were things that he had to cut from what would have been his final draft purely because his publisher had a page limit. His actual changes to the text beyond adding things had to do with updating the story to include references to things like the AIDS epidemic. If I love the book I may track down an original version. I don’t think it’s sold new anywhere, although all copies of the Stand are still advertised as “Uncut” so it isn’t like the Star Wars situation where we got a replacement.

EDIT: I think he changed the year from 1985 to 1990 as well.

Cool story bro.

The Shining was the first King novel I read. I saw the Kubric movie and hated it. The TV version from the 90s is pretty decent, although Danny’s actor is literally a mouth breather.

The best movie I’ve seen so far, based on Kings works, is The Stand. It has a few cuts from the book and they made two characters from the book into one in the movie, but erverything else was just perfect (it’s about 20 years since I’ve either seen the film or read the book).
The Shawshank Redemption also is almost perfect.

I’m pretty fond of his short stories, with Nolan’s Cadillac being my favorite. The movie was… well… not so good.

I finished the Stand. I have no idea what everyone’s problem with the ending is; I thought it was great. I read the “Complete and Uncut Edition” and can’t find a comprehensive list of changes so I don’t know exactly what were the originally deleted portions of the book and what aren’t other than the short intro, the added illustrations, and the short epilogue. The intro was good but the epilogue was pointless and a little confusing.

My problem with the ending is how much of a literal deus ex machina it is. But I forgive it because King has always sucked giant donkey balls at endings once he gets past a certain page count.

I’m actually about to start reading The Stand again (for the first time in years).
