The Dark Tower series is probably the hardest damn thing in the world to describe......here's the books:
1: The Gunslinger
2: The Drawing Of The Three
3: The Waste Lands
4: Wizard And Glass
5: The Wolves Of The Calla
6: Song Of Susannah
7: The Dark Tower
I think the best way to describe it is as a cross of the Clint Eastwood Man With No Name Trilogy, The Lord Of The Rings and various science fiction ideas (time travel, robots, etc).
It is a series that even the most casual Stephen King fan will not get into. I think King was at a book signing giving a talk once and he asked everyone to stand up who had read at least one of his books. Naturally, everyone stood. Then he asked how many had read one or more of the Dark Tower series and literally half the crowd sat down. So, it is not an easy series to get into at all.
The first book is incredibly hard to get through. You keep trying to figure out what is going on, where this is taking place and what the hell is going to happen.....it took me about 3 or 4 times before I finally got through it. Then I moved on the second book and it just flew. After that each one just flew by.
It's a crazy, wild story and pretty freaky at times. I mean, there is some weird shit in there. I would highly recommend it, but you have to have some patience and a very open mind to approach it.
