Sometimes I look at past discussions and debates that I’ve had over my tenure here. As a fairly hypercritical person, I’m always quite stunned by how much I’m dismayed at my past self for the way he made certain points or the way he argued things or the way he said something. Past me and I have significant disagreements, maybe not on the issues being discussed, but how they were discussed. I wonder how often I take my self-criticisms to heart — am I getting better? The truth is, we’re all a work in progress. A few months down the line, I’ll look at things that happened around this time, including most likely this very post, and make some more criticisms of myself, and the cycle will repeat itself in an almost methodical and predictable way.
