Revenge of the Sith DLP Digital THX

Wow, I just saw Revenge of the Sith in Greenville, SC. I drove 2.5 hours from charlotte, for my birthday to see, ROTS for the third time, but I am posting this because it may as well have been my first. If any of you have a chance to see this movie on a Barco DLP digital projector in a THX certified surround sound theatre...well...DO IT. My god, it's like I was seeing the movie in black and white with a mono track before. My quibbles with the movie seemed to fade away and I was lost, with my mouth open, my eyes wide and that little kid feeling like the first time I saw star Wars. The screen was huge. The colors so bright, so vivid, and sooooooo much more detail I never noticed. The sound rocked your bones and moved all around you. I praised the technical achievement after the movie, I just never knew the work was that good (I knew it was good...but not awesome).

This theatre maybe where I see War of the worlds and stay for another viewing of ROTS, June 29th...and of course I'll see batman at IMAX. I'll beg anyone to travel to see it digital. TFN has a list of theatres nationally showing in digital. Drive, cross-country if you have to. Wow.

I did the same, drove an hour to see it and was thoroughly unimpressed.

At what theater?

I went to Edgewater, NJ to see ROTS on DLP and they had an old first generation projector. Must have been an XGA (1024x768) because the pixel structure was horrible. Colors were dull compared to the film presentation I'd seen the week before, and the bulb was obviously beyond its rated lifespan because the picture was exceedingly dim.

HD broadcasts on my home projector (Optoma H79, 1280x720 DLP) easily beat ROTS on the DLP in Edgewater.

If Obi-wonton saw it on a more recent Barco, it probably was as stunning as he says.

I saw it at a newer theater in Valley View, Ohio. It wasn't a lack of clarity or color, or the sound for that matter. I just expected it to be leaps and bounds over 35mm, which it wasn't. I own an old, single screen cinema and I have and old Simplex 35mm projector. With it properly configured, the only significant difference I noticed between the DLP and the 35mm was the lack of burn marks. That's it.

I'm familiar with this theater and only wish I still lived in the area to see that new Barco projector. A buddy of mine saw ROTS there opening week and raved about it in ways I wish he would describe here in this forum. The theatre in question is the newly-reopened Camelot in Greenville SC. This place boasts the largest screen on the east coast. I have seen it in person when it was first built a decade ago (as the Carmike) and it blew me away then. THX-certified sound, and the most ginormous screen I've ever beheld. I wanted to see Ben Hur play on this screen in the worst way.

Apparently a series of bad investments had this awesome facility change hands for a while, then be used as a church for a while, then sit unused for a while. Now it's back to being a badass theatre again, and I only wish I still lived in that part of the country to behold it.

Edit:
here are two links about the theatre

official site

Cinema Treasures forum (seems to take a while to load the posts, so be very patient)

The latter contains some of my friend's rave reviews.

Thanks for backing me up ADM, and yes the theatre is probably 4 x bigger than any I've ever been in. I am actually considering moving, I love movies so much and see probably two a week out at the theatre with my wife. Now every sci-fi movie or action movie I will want to see there. War of the Worlds, Batman, Fantastic 4 (that may not be good), Serenity (that will be incredible), etc. Of course, now I want to star wars more there. They said in some articles I've read that its the best in the country. Beautiful High-def. Amazing. Let me know if any one of you guys from the board want to make the trek. My wife and I will go back in a second!

Thanks for the heads-up on Serenity. I just checked IMDB - that's sooooo totally cool! I didn't realize how far along they were on that show.

[EDIT] Has anyoen been able to download the trailers for this thing? I can't find a working website for them yet.

Here ya go MeBejedi. Its not a show anymore if anyone doesn't have the firefly boxset (joss whedon)...this show is incredible. There will be 3 movies, since fox dropped the ball by letting the shows go. So it ended up working out better. Sept. 30. I get to see the whole cast at Dragon*Con!!! Not to get off topic. But I will beg you watch it if you haven't.

Serenity in full hi-def glory!

I need to say something about Star Wars, so let me say its Serenity/Firefly is Sci-Fi, but develops characters brilliantly unlike the Star Wars films.

I've tried it from there. I keep having issues with that site.
