The Sequel Trilogy we wanted...

Author
Time

…can never happen. In an ideal world, George Lucas would have kept directing and writing films, keeping his craft sharp. He has Maria by his side, complementing his strengths, compensating for his weaknesses. Around 1990, George realizes that he does not need any more advanced special effects to make more Star Wars films; he just needs good stories. He makes the ST focusing on Luke’s efforts to rebuild the Jedi and Leia’s efforts to rebuild the Republic. The films are released in 1993, 1995, and 1997.

Myself for sure, but I think others too. Maybe even you?

So how about it? Do you prefer the scenario I postulated or the present condition of Star Wars?

I know one thing for sure: George Lucas can make really, really bad Star Wars films.

I suspect something else: without him, there will be no more great Star Wars films.

I’ll be honest I didn’t read past the part I quoted because I’m lazy. But I like the ST so far, so I guess not for me.

When I first saw Star Wars in '77, I never had to go watch it again to decide if I liked it or not.

Oh. Maybe read it all and let us discuss in a respectfull manner?

There’s been two since he stepped down.

Which ones?

The two that have been made so far.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call them great, but not sure why you feel the need to ask that question.

I thought you claimed to remember me.

Anyway my point is that you said the sequel trilogy we want can never be made, which is false because not everyone wants the same thing as you.

I do. Irreverent at times, but usually respectful!

But you have not addressed my scenario. Would you have liked to seen movies about Luke and Leia rebuilding the galaxy or do you prefer what we are given in the ST?

That’s not answerable because you’re asking me to compare a hypothetical set of movies to one that already exists.

Hmm. I think it is. I liked TFA, but would definitely have preferred a screen adaption (or HBO adaption) of Heir to The Empire. Have you never run through alternatives to the Alien 3 film we got and said, “Man, that would have been so much better!”?

Me neither. But I did not like it. I rented it (!) from my local video store and fast forwarded through the last third. The Vader sequence at the end seemed like the biggest, cheesiest piece of fan service ever.

Not really no. I’m too busy arguing on the internet to think about the things other people are arguing about on the internet.

But my point is that I liked the ST so of course I would want it made if the choice was available again. I can’t compare it to something that hasn’t been made.
