Help get The Original Trilogy preserved!

Alright. Just announced. Disney now owns 20th Century Fox. Let’s hope this leads to something good and we can all finally have a proper, official and untouched version of the original Star Wars.

I have a bad feeling about this…

Yes! There is literally nothing in their way now to release a theatrical release of any of the original trilogy films. Plus, we can have our beloved FOX fanfare intro back for the next SW films.

If this had happened prior to 2015, perhaps they would have done so for consistency (or maybe not). But it seems unlikely that they’ll switch again after having done three this way.

But, anyway (and on topic), it means that they should be able to stop cutting it out of Disney releases of the original trilogy.

Doesn’t Disney already have a 4k cut of the Original Cut of ANH but not other that’s what some insiders have said

Unless you’re talking about Legacy, I’ve never heard that Lucasfilm has a readymade 4K theatrical edition of any of the three. The persistent claim that the original negative for Star Wars was destroyed in making the SE might be false, and they might have a release print of it, but I don’t think there’s a remastered transfer just sitting around.

Gareth Edwards mentioned seeing one while making Rogue one

Do you remember, when Disney requested a print of the original cut from Library of Congress why would they ask for it if they say “oh we don’t care about the OUT” so clearly something is happening is not why ask for the print. Here is a quote from reddit:

“For those unaware, the only thing Disney didn’t get when they bought Lucas Films back in 2012 was distribution rights to Episode 4. According to insiders, Disney has a 4k copy of the original cut of the film but can not release it. Now that Disney has bought all of 20th Century Fox, they now have full control of that movie and can release it to the public.”

But insiders have said that Disney has aqquired the print from library of congress and have restored it so who knows

I think it would be advisable not to use the word ‘shitty’ in a petition you intend to send to the Walt Disney Company.
