The "Is it in HD somewhere because I can't find it" thread. — Page 4

I asked this in the Amadeus theatrical reconstruction thread but it didn’t get any traction. A couple weeks ago, I went to a screening of Amadeus with a live orchestra where they showed a DCP of the theatrical cut. Is this available commercially anywhere? As far as I know, the blu-ray only includes the director’s cut, but now that there’s evidently a high def master of the theatrical version out there I’m thinking there could have been a release somewhere along the line that I missed.

I’ve updated the list with the latest suggestions. I’ve never heard of Final Approach - it sounds good from the synopsis, I’ll have to track it down!

True Lies? Never seen it, and would love to!

There are very high quality versions via torrent (Rutracker.org) and Usenet. ‘D-Theater’ versions are the best and just recently you can find the Open Matte WEBRip on rutracker.

My number 1 unicorn is the German movie Felidae from 1994. Can’t find anything above DVD anywhere. There’s supposed to be an LD, but I’ve never seen it even mentioned outside of a wikipedia article.

Holy carp! Can’t believe I missed this. I hope the Warner Archive Collection considers a release.

“Guest House Paradiso” (1999) aka, “Bottom: The Movie” starring Rik Mayall and Ade Edmunson.

“Nil By Mouth” (1997) by Gary Oldman, starring Ray Winstone and Kathy Burke.

Only DVD exists for both of these. No HDTV rips or digital versions out there. Probably not films that would look much better in HD but would be nice to have.

UPDATE - Both films released on Blu Ray as of 2023.

Are there any clean sources for Michael Jackson music videos in HD (other than the ones in Moonwalker)? I’m specifically looking for Thriller, Bad, and Ghosts, but it would be cool to see if anyone knows anything about the others (also stuff like Captain EO). I know the first two have very short clips in the Moonwalker opening montage (and are cropped to 16:9 at that), but that’s about it. And of course there was the Thriller 3D IMAX release, but with the IMAX cropping, forced 3D, added jumpscares and sound effects, and the fact that the only sources are the 30-second trailer and camrip snippets doesn’t really help here.

Ghosts is available in HD for sure.

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

Any idea where? I’ve only seen VHS and Laserdisc rips (the latter has subtitles burned into the picture since it was only in France).

Edit: I did end up finding it, since it apparently had at least one HDTV broadcast. Sadly, even though it’s 4:3, the channel watermark does intrude in the top-left of the screen at the start of the dance numbers. Even then, this is still the best looking I’ve seen the full thing by a long shot.

Could someone point me toward a torrent of the HDTV recording of Pink Floyd The Wall?

The In Crowd (2000)

It was remastered in HD, the uncut version, and is available somewhere. Anyone have it or know where I could get it?
Apparently it was also on Netflix (US). PM me the details if you can help. Thanks

Rutracker.org

I looked and I couldn’t find it. Could you PM me it?

Search:

pink floyd wall 1982 1080p

or

pink floyd wall 1982 720p

or

pink floyd wall 1982 1080i

I still couldn’t find it.

Those work perfectly. Are you using Chrome to translate Russian to English? If you don’t like Chrome I’d definitely make rutracker the one exception for using it.

Scroll all the way to the bottom. It has to be there. 1080p has two HDTVrips and one HDTV torrent.

Team America (2004) “Unrated” version (with THAT scene extended) is only available on original Region 1 DVD. All Bu Ray and HD versions are the regular, R-Rated version.

Gulliver’s Travels (1996 miniseries) with Ted Danson.

Seeing as it’s Christmas;

Raymond Briggs’ “The Snowman” (1982) with original intro, 4:3 aspect ratio and instrumental “Walking in the Air”.

The Blu Ray, which is still great quality, is cropped to 16:9 and lacks any of the three intros. It does however include all 3 intros by Raymond Briggs, David Bowie and Mel Smith’s Father Christmas as a bonus feature in 1080i 4:3.

The original Briggs intro version has never been release in PAL on DVD or VHS, let alone Blu Ray, in the UK. It was released Australia in 2004 in it’s original form but the quality is not great, though still very watchable. This is the only PAL version I’ve been able to find.

It was released in the US on DVD (NTSC) in 1998 (along with the William Dennis Hunt re-voiced “Father Christmas”) and much better quality than the Australian DVD, but it is in NTSC and speed/pitch is slowed down.

“The Snowman” was repeated on Channel 4 in 1991 (first time I saw the film) and again in 1992.

The instrumental “Walking in the Air” was soon replaced with a vocal version by St Paul’s Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty. This version is most commonly used in any version you watch (Brigg’s/Bowie/Smith Intro version) and is the version included on the 1998 R1 NTSC DVD.

An Australian VHS recording of the original broadcast version has been uploaded here;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgcZAv4HAHM

Original Raymond Briggs Intro repeat broadcast from 1992;

Apart from that, nearly every year between 1983 and 2002 it’s been the Bowie version. Then there was the 2002 16:9 version with the Mel Smith Father Christmas intro, but since Smiths passing in 2013, Channel 4 have reverted back to airing the 4:3 Bowie version. There’s always a chance the original will be shown again or even a 40th Anniversary 4K release in 2022.

Raymond Briggs’ “Father Christmas” (1991)

Only DVD exists, either stand-alone or double feature with “The Snowman” (1983 David Bowie Version). There’s a cropped 16:9 HD version available digitally, but no 4:3 HD version. The iTunes version does have an ac3 5.1 track however, and the picture zooms out back to 4:3 during the end credits.

Both films have aired in Channel 4 HD but they look like upscales to me.
