Hey you guys, WHERE WAS SNAP WEXLEY?! Are we to believe he died in the opening space battle without any acknowledgement?

I mentioned this, I thought it was funny how easily a main character of the Aftermath books was killed off.

He’s also practically Poe’s sidekick in the Poe Dameron comic. Did they actually show his death or are we just supposed to infer that he was one of the many casualties? After the amount of attention he’s gotten in the nuEU, it’s strange they’d just snuff him out with no fanfare like that. If it weren’t for the specifics of the movie, I’d just assume Greg Grunberg couldn’t make it work with his schedule and we’re supposed to figure he’s just offscreen at any given time, but that line of thinking isn’t sustainable when by the end of the movie the entire Resistance fits onto the Millennium Falcon.

Let’s hope not!

Did they though?

I remember seeing him killed off.
It was early on. I think during the bombing run on the dreadnaught, he was escorting bombers in an x-wing and there was a half second long shot of his face in the cockpit as the ship blew up.

Really disappointing the way they treated a main character from the new eu.

I thought that was someone else entirely.

Yoda burned down a church.

I don’t get why Luke wanted to destroy the books, then got defensive about them with Yoda.

I think Luke wanted to burn it down for a different reason than Yoda.

who else feels that episode 9 will take place several years later. That i think would be the best way to deal with carrie fisher’s death. a funeral scene just to acknowledge her passing kind of the way they did leonard nimoy’s passing in star trek 3

Jeez I hope not. Best case scenario would be that they cut together a few deleted scenes or different takes form TLJ to let her be.

I’m seeing it again in a few hours, but my initial reaction is very positive.

What I did not like:
Canto Bight - Brought the movie to a halt and seemed entirely unnecessary. Maybe the young kid at the end serves some purpose down the road, but I still think they could have used Rose as the code-breaker and found another way to sneak on the ship. It almost seemed like a different movie for a bit.

What I loved:
Luke - He’s an old curmudgeon on the island. He’s been alone so long with his sorrow that he’s a bit off his rocker. He’s like ESB Yoda on Dagobah. Hamil killed it. I’m hoping he comes back as a force ghost in IX.

The unexpected - I avoided all spoilers, trailers, etc. I went in only with my knowledge of TFA. The film took solid twists and turns that Star Wars usually doesn’t take. I love that Rey’s parents may be nobody (maybe Kylo is lying), I love that Poe F’d up constantly, I love Ren killing Snoke and then fighting along with Rey (fantastic scene).

The new films have what the prequels lacked. They have great new characters that truly make you care about them and their stories.

I’m seeing it again today, and in the meantime I’m watching TFA. Han’s “Yeah, I knew him . . . I knew Luke,” line takes on a completely different vibe now.

Also, if Kylo was still rocking a blue saber and didn’t have the mask yet when he destroyed Luke’s academy, then what the hell is the the scene with the Knights of Ren in the rain from Rey’s TFA Force vision? Are they just substituting the version of Kylo that Rey (and the viewer) is familiar with, or is that something else entirely?

The Knights of Ren are sort of weird back story (like certain elements of SW before we had prequels) and or mystery box nonsense so who cares. Maybe they died, maybe they will be in IX. Whatever. The best part was they threw out so much “wooo what an enigma” stuff JJ is so fond of, and it makes TFA stronger because of it.

I don’t think it does. RJ is trying to “fix” TFA most of the time in TLJ so I don’t get why TFA would end up being stronger thanks to him. TLJ really tries something, it’s a real movie, not the most expensive fan film ever.
The more I think about it: TLJ >>>>> TFA
(then TLJ might rank #5 for me - after the OT and ROTS -… but the bad humor tempers my will to like it 😦 )

I advise everybody to just relax, go see the movie, and decide for yourselves. Your own opinion is what should matter to you, not that of me or anyone else here.

And did I see a Hardware Wars reference, or was I dreaming?

Absoulutely!!! I thought the same damn thing. Glad someone else noticed that.

Ok, I went in with no expectations except failure. That seemed to work for me. As the movie wore on, I kept saying to myself, “I like this, its not that bad.” Then, the ESB scenes, the ROTJ scenes kind of irked me a bit. Luke was an old, crochedy cynic. I liked Hamills performance. Overall, it wasnt bad. I wished we had a bit more of Luke scene, but I got why it was done that way. For some reason, the flow of the movie and the interactions between the characters almost seemed like it was a sitcom instead of an epic movie. I dont know if thats the right word to describe it, but it just seemed too contemporary.

I thought that the Porgs were kind of cute, but hey, I laugh at the Minions, so what I know?

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

More importantly, they were barely in the film. Especially compared to what many people feared.

And also compared to those awful Minions.

Excellent read. I saw this again today with my son and loved it even more the second time through. Johnson truly does give the middle finger to a lot of what was set before him and I think it’s a stronger movie because of this. The second viewing was also more emotional for me. Luke and Leia…that’s the stuff.

was I hearing things or did Finn call someone a ‘bastard’ at the end? Sure, if you’re being pedantic it’s not a swear word…except, it actually is isnt it.

Yeah I heard it. That, a couple damns, and a “big ass door” from Poe. Still very mild, but I guess this is the most foul-mouthed SW flick to date.

Considering the way tv has gone in recent years, we should be happy they weren’t throwing around all of George Carlin’s words.

The reason i think Yoda burned down the tree is because he knew that Rey took the books so he basically just burned down a empty tree
