A couple weeks ago, we had a debate about the Daniel Shaver case. At one point I posted a video about why cops can’t always use tazers. Well, now we have video of that same cop talking about the Shaver case. I thought some would be interested in seeing it.
I read his comment on it but didn’t watch the video (because it’s an hour long), and I don’t like his take at all. The shooting was not justified. The fact that the incidences leading up to the shooting were coercive and vile makes the shooting unjustified. Taking someone hostage and then shooting them to death when you think that they might vaguely be reaching for a gun still makes you a murderer. It doesn’t matter what you thought they were doing. The problem is that all of these “good cops” are willing to stand up, even if only tacitly, for the bad cops. That’s why the problems in American law enforcement will never be solved at this rate.
