And sure, there’s nothing wrong with that, but what you’re doing is asking for people to cease intelligent film criticism and discussion and just end it with a base level impression.

Nope. Not asking for any of that.

But you did say that people who like the film should stop trying to analyze it to explain why they do, didn’t you?

No I didn’t say that at all. I said that “I” didn’t need to analyze a film to know whether or not I like it.

I just think it’s ridiculous to dismiss everyone who has legitimate criticisms of the film and try to explain to them why they should like it. Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, etc. Flashback city.

Well okay but if the legitimate criticisms are countered with legitimate points, what’s the issue? There’s a distinction there.

You essentially have the same attitude, but from the other side…
I just think it’s ridiculous to dismiss everyone who has legitimate things they appreciate about the film and try to explain to them why they shouldn’t like it.

I don’t think there is such a thing as “legitimate” or “illegitimate” points when it comes to subjective tastes. This isn’t science—it’s art.

That was your word, though, you said “legitimate criticisms.”

Listen, I don’t care if you just like what you like and don’t like what you don’t. But intelligent film criticism is about exploring why you have those reactions, and I don’t see why there’s anything wrong with that. This doesn’t even have to do with my thoughts on the film itself. It’s just a weird thing for someone to say.
