Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17) — Page 10

I don’t think it has anything to do with George whatsoever. I think it’s lack of interest from Disney and within Lucasfilm. I do think if enough of a demand is present, they would do it. Unfortunately, with all of the new films coming out, the demand has been lessened.

If George himself isn’t the problem, I think when the ultimate 4K box set comes out, we’ll probably get a quick-and-dirty HD scan of an interpositive or release print packaged with it as a special feature, a la the GOUT. Not the kind of loving restoration we’d hope for, but something. If he is, I don’t think anything will happen while he’s alive.

The more I hear about this Paul guy, the less I like him. Kudos to him for at least saying something about it.

First of all, he literally says he agrees with us. Second of all, he’s just stating the facts (however cryptic, though even then this is far from his department so he’s probably not at liberty to divulge). It’s not like it’s his decision.

My guess is it’s money.

I didn’t read it like that. The asterisk made it seem like he was being facetious, plus past tweets I’ve read from him here have been… a bit acerbic.

I think he’s just tired of having to field the question. I read the bit with the asterisk as meaning that this isn’t his area at all at LFL. He’s got to be sick of everyone assuming he’s the guy to ask by now, hence the saltiness. I’ve seen him express a positive opinion of the OOT in the past elsewhere, too.

Side note, does anyone know how to actually type an asterisk in markdown without having it register as italics?

He ought to direct people to the person who can actually answer the question. If someone owning Disney stock asked the OOT question at a shareholder’s meeting they’d have to answer it, just like they did when Song Of The South came up a few years back.

Huh. Pablo (in his latest tweets), is now overtly implying that it’s George who is preventing the OOT release. Wow.

He writes, “There’s one pretty noteworthy person who doesn’t want them released. Shouldn’t be too hard to research who that is.” (https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status/941382975853281281).

Yeah, he just Tweeted that to me. It’s sounds like the English translation. Is that General Frevious and I are right and we’re just fucked.

They did at least once, but have apparently ducked the question since then.

Maybe if we all bought a share or two? 😛

I actually think I have like a $0.25 share someone bough for me as a birthday present when I was a kid 😛.

You should check up on that. All I have are some old Disney dollars. 😉

The most likely conclusion to draw from all of this is just that Pablo Hidalgo is being a jerk.

All he is is an overpaid nobody whose only job is to troll on twitter and decide whether or not Yarna d’al’ Gargan is canon or not.

I don’t know anything about him other than his name keeps getting misspelled in this thread, but I highly doubt this.

He’s the canon guy. I’m sure he has other jobs, but that’s his only purpose for Lucasfilm.

Honestly I think a quick and dirty scan would pacify most people, myself included.

I’m not sure what the subsequent discussion here is implying but this seems pretty unambiguous to me (his shitty sarcasm aside) … and it’s the same thing everyone was told by Kennedy months ago. What else is there to debate now?

Kennedy never commented on the possibility of an OOT release.

I don’t think you can totally discount the fact that Star Wars as of yet hasn’t had even an inkling of a mention in any articles about the deal despite being fairly big news that Disney now holds the rights to ALL SW movies, probably one of their biggest and more profitable franchises alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the fact that news on Mike Verta’s restoration has also gone completely cold at the same time.

If Disney really are trying to keep the whole thing quiet in lieu of an official release in the near future then I highly doubt you are going to hear anything but denials via official and even most unofficial channels. They’ll have that shit locked down water tight…

Agreed and, if the way Disney has treated leaks for Star Wars since they bought the rights proves anything, it’s that things will be so tightly on lockdown that even if news does get out, there will be a lot of plausible deniability behind it since almost no one would be able to corroborate anything of substance.

Only if you grasp hard enough at all those straws.
