kk650's Regraded Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V3 (blanket green tint removed from blu-ray) (Released)

I’ve just uploaded a 5gb release of the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V3 I just finished to the same place as usual. All those interested in knowing where, send me a PM. I’ll also be uploading new V3 releases of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in the next few days.

With this Regrained Edition of The Phantom Menace I have added grain back to the waxy looking DNRed blu-ray release, bringing out the hidden detail of the blu-ray transfer. Adding grain also gives the film a far more natural looking filmic appearance, which it should always have had because this film was shot on film, unlike Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith that were shot on digital cameras.

Here are some screencap comparisons for those interested:

Very excited to hear this and cant wait to see them KK650!!! I have a question concerning the OT regrades, are you gonna have 2.6’s of ESB 2.6 ( with Ian Mcdiarmid as Emperor) and Rotj 2.6 as well???

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

That’s the plan! Got to release Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One first though, then i’ll move onto the Semi Specialised Editions and then finally The Force Awakens.

Sorry guys, I was going through this release and came across one or two places in the film where there are duplicate frames, so i’ve nuked this V3 release. I’ll get the issue fixed, reencode it and rerelease it as V3.01 in the next few days. The Phantom Menace is my favourite of the prequels so I want to make sure that everything is just right.

5 Gigabytes?! Why such a low bitrate? Any way to get a high bitrate version that’s Blu-Ray compliant? Also, what are you planning for Attack of the Clones V3?

He’s said that he’s releasing small files first, and if enough people are interested in those, he’ll then release full-size versions.

Which I think is a mistake, since many (like myself) won’t download a small bitrate version, instead opting to wait for a full-size copy, which might make it seem like there’s less interest than there actually is. But that’s the way kk650 has chosen to go about it.

What would be a big mistake would be to put up 22gb torrents only for them to die after a few days. I have a friend that takes care of uploading my releases as torrents. He says that he wouldn’t be able to upload any new releases if he was constantly having to jump in to reseed 22gb releases that have no seeds, he simply does not have the upload bandwidth to do both at the same time, so for that reason he’s not willing to upload 22gb releases.

If others committed to keeping the 22gb releases alive once he finished uploading them, that would be a different matter. I’ve discussed this at length with him and he would be willing to upload 22gb releases if he could be confident that they would stay up without him having to step in to reseed them.

If anybody with a seedbox would be willing to help my friend by committing to keeping the 22gb or 9gb releases alive (he’s told me he should be able to keep the 2-5gb releases alive himself), send me a PM. I would not be able to pay you of course but I would be willing to take on personal requests for regrades or consider other requests in exchange.

When it comes to these new Star Wars releases though, you don’t need to worry guys, at least when it comes to the Prequel Trilogy and the Semi-Specialised Original Trilogy, i’ll be putting up 22gb releases of these latest version onto Myspleen like I’ve always done.

Rogue One and The Force Awakens are too new though so they are not allowed on Myspleen as far as I know.

A new improved V3 release, using the high quality Attack of the Clones HDTV Transport Stream that hasn’t been DNRes to high heaven like the blu-ray, so it has much better overall detail and grain. Like with The Phantom Menace V3 release, all the blanket green tint on top of the film has been removed. It’s a big improvement over the previous V2 release IMHO.

For the Revenge of the Sith V3 release i’ll be using the blu-ray as the main source, its the only Prequel blu-ray that looks good to my eyes, and removing all the blanket green tint like with The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones V3 releases. I’m very happy with how all three look now.

Cool beans, I’m glad these are a little more conservative than your previous takes on these movies, even though I didn’t mind the warmer look on the prequels. With your Semi-Specialized releases, will there be any editorial changes or just new grading?

No changes to the edits, I will be creating a different version of the Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition with Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor though, there have been a number of requests for that. I will also create two versions of Return of the Jedi to give everybody the choice of the Yub Nub or Victory Celebration ending.

In terms of regrading, I will be adjusting the Star Wars Semi-Specialised Edition V2.6 so it feels slightly warmer overall. The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.6 looks just right to my eyes so that will be staying the same. The last version of the Return of the Jedi Semi-Specialised Edition was V2.15 so the difference with the new V2.6 will be pretty big.

Rogue One and The Force Awakens are too new though so they are not allowed on Myspleen as far as I know.

Well Hal 9000’s The Force Awakens Restructed is on the spleen. Also a faneditor name DigModiFicaTion has his TFA fanedit (Heir To The Force), as well his RO fanedit (Rise Of The Rebellion) is on the spleen as well. So I think it’s safe to assume they’re allowing Force Awakens and Rouge One on the site as of now. To them Disney stuff is “on a case by case basis!” So I’d go that route to see if they will allow. I don’t see why they wouldn’t, having allowed what I stated up top on their site.

I didn’t know that. I’ll upload those regrades to Myspleen as well then.

Okay, all the issues with the previous V3 release of The Phantom Menace have been fixed, a new updated V3.1 release can be found at the usual place.

I was just going to ask if a project like this existed, these are just corrections of the official Blu Rays right ?

Hello, I’m having a hard time finding links to your amazing edits. Can someone please PM me? Thanks. My external crashed and I had KK650’s Original trilogy.

I haven’t edited The Phantom Menace in any way so in that sense its identical to the blu-ray. I added grain to combat the waxy DNRed look of the official blu-ray so this Regrained Edition looks a lot more filmlike than the official blu-ray, especially in motion. Then using the new Regrained Edition source I removed the blanket green tint on the blu-ray and lastly adjusted the fleshtones.

They’re currently only available in high quality on Myspleen. I’m been getting a lot of messages from those that have had hard disk crashes and lost a lot of my high quality releases from tehparadox in the process, so there are many in the same boat as you. The aim is to rerelease these older regrades from tehparadox at some point, can’t say when that will be though.

I’ve just uploaded the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V3.1 to Myspleen. The release is 23.2 GB and includes the DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 audio track from the blu-ray.

Are your releases Blu-Ray compliant (can be burned to disk unmodified) or intended for playback on PCs?

Thank you KK650, I’m downloading now. As soon as it finishes I check it out and send you some feedback. I’m starting a 4 film Marathon tomorrow 1,2,3, & RO with your regrades and Thursday 4,5,6, & 7 before going to see TLJ that night. Can’t wait for the rest of series V.3 of the PT, V2.6’s of the OT and your V2 of TFA when made available. Keep up the fantastic work.

Hey KK650, I gave a lil watch of the climax from duel of the fates til the end . I love the deep colors for the new regrade. At least to me the colors had deep quality. The skin tones are defiantly a improvement as well, a lot more natural. I took comparisons using mpc-hc of V2 & V3. Great work, looking forward to the rest.

Is it 1980x1080 with black bars on top and bottom or were the bars cropped?

The top and bottom black bars have been cropped, exactly as they are in the screencap comparisons above.
