If the title is called PERSON of the Year, how can you pick a group of people?

Easy to forget Time once picked a silicon based life form.

I didn’t know that.

They also once picked “You,” with a reflective cover so you could see yourself.

Yep.

Also, looking at the list of “Person of the Year” choices, this is far from the first time they picked multiple people.

I was afraid to look at that cover, for fear I would be sucked into a parallel universe or an A-Ha music video. 😛

I find it kind of unsettling that sexual abuse in the public conscious is all about men preying on women… it goes both ways… I’d know.

I’m sure it does, but there’s probably a big psychological hurdle to overcome for a man to publicly admit he was harassed by a woman. I vaguely recall a girl bully in my youth who probably got away with a lot, because who in the 1970’s would want to tell their parents they got beat up by a girl? Who would even believe it? I don’t think I ever had a run in with them myself though.

The mean girls I remember from high school were masters of playing innocent when the faculty were around.

Social as well. I’m expected to laugh it off.

As someone who has been sexually harassed a couple times by women (real minor incidents, mind you), I sympathize, but let’s be real - one is frighteningly common while the other is fairly rare.

The fact of the matter is it shouldn’t be a gender thing, it should be an issue against sexual assault. Period.

Don’t tell Trumpy that. 😉

It is (and there actually are a lot of men breaking their silence), but the fact of the matter is that it is a gender thing, and that can’t be ignored.

I never said they couldn’t.

I will agree that there is one big difference between a male being harassed and a female being harassed. Most men are bigger and stronger than women, that is just the biology works. So when a man gets harassed, he can defend himself because he is stronger, most of the time. But when a woman gets harassed, most of the time she can not.

Harassment is usually about power, not physicality (or even sexuality).

Regardless, it shouldn’t be a gender issue, but it is, because the overwhelming number of cases involve women, as Dom already said.

I suppose they could, but how would that reflect on them? You may be able to punch a male harasser (even that would look bad, as Terry Crews said); but hitting a woman is a huge no-go, coincidentally for the exact same reason that you say men should be able to defend themselves.

I’ll have to research that story.

why/how would a woman punching a male harasser look bad?

This is true. Still, if it were a true self defense situation . . .

A man punching a male harasser, sorry if it wasn’t clear.

oh. Well still I don’t see why a male defending a woman against a male harasser would look bad.
