Im making my own mono mix. Can somebody tell me about the sounds used when the terminator kicks the door to the hotel room down and lays waist to the hotel room, before the part where the terminator pursues the Pair on a bike.

Exactly what about the sounds so you wanna know??

was it the sounds used in the Police Station massecre

Yes the gun does make the same sounds in the motel scene as it did in the police station massacre.

I don’t believe that sound was changed when the movie was remixed.

I don’t have to. They did.

It just sounds very modern

Pretty much all the new sound effects added to the Terminator surround mix sound very modern and IMO very out of place in a 1980s film. Even ‘80s films with good surround mixes used sound effects that were of their times. Not so much with the Terminator remix.

The Endoskeleton exploding from the pipebomb was changed. Could you please elaborate more on what you are trying to attempt here?? Are you more interested in the mono sound effects or the remix?? Do you not have the mono on a DVD to compare?? Not trying to be rude, just a little lost but I’ll help if I can.

On a different note I decided to finally make a video comparing the subtle differences between the Mono on the LD and the one that was included on the MGM Special Edition DVD.

https://vimeo.com/246332731

One slight difference I believe is present but didnt note in the video is when the Terminator cocks the 12 gauge in the gun shop. Is it me or does it sound like the cocking sound was double tracked on the MGM mono??

THANK YOU!!! I had read about these subtle differences on both this site and others, but never had them all compiled WITH annotations to point them out directly. Nice work…

…However. You’re missing the difference in the door clank sound at the police station
when The Terminator walks out (after saying “Ill be back”).

Talking about this made me feel like popping in my old VHS copy that I never got rid of. I noticed something…funny. I think I have a very rare sound mix that no one has mentioned before. I took a clip to show an example of what I mean.

The door clang is the same in both monos.

Are you sure? I’ve read in other message boards that there’s a difference between the 2. Check out 0:47 of this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVeBJw-EzVI

Then compare it to 0:26 in this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxgkkJOEHS4

Notice how the first one is much louder. The 2nd one is lower, but sounds more 'correct".

The second video is incorrect. Whoever uploaded that somehow got part of the remix tacked on the front (unless some editions of the MGM disc incorrectly had that sound effect on the mono track). I’m watching the 2001 MGM DVD right now with the mono and it has the correct sound. Here’s further proof the 2001 DVD has the right door slam. Below is another YouTube video where someone synch’d the mono track to the BD footage. The audio he used is from the MGM DVD since you find the subtle differences I pointed out in my comparison video present in this video. But you can see this video has the correct door slam.
