Obi Wan knew of Leia, he just did not consider her a "Hope"... Obi Wan didn't think she could be as effective against the Emperor as Luke was.

But no, none of this apparently goes through his head, and then when he arrives to find Mace and Palpatine facing off, Palpy lies to his face "I'm too weak!" but as soon as Anakin intervenes, suddenly Palpy is back at full power and blasts Mace out the window? Hey kid, he just lied to your face! not to mention he tried to make you think Mace was trying to overthrow the republic AFTER you walked over 2 jedi corpses. You think Mace did that maybe? You know, if Lucas had just characterized Anakin as a dumb jock, none of this would matter. If the audience just believed Anakin was stupid, we'd be in a better place

Hm. Yeah, but... Anakin is incredibly self centered, and he'll do anything to get him more power, and anything to save Padme. Plus he was probably scared Palps would kill him. He already distrusts the Jedi anyway.

Actually, it makes more sense that way. After all, R2 is the hero of the series, constantly saving everyone's butts, and he understands how important it is to find ObiWan and all.
