The Fox logo and title cards suffer from very low bitrate. It’s as low as 2Mbps at some moments, causing some macroblocking artifacts. The picture does get much much better, especially when it gets to Hoth. Is there a reason the video bitrate is much lower than version 1?

V2 has all the Despecialized audio tracks, plus fitted for a 25gb blu ray. So the video encode is quite a bit smaller than version 1. Side by side I didn’t notice much of a difference though.

This is truly god’s work. I can’t believe it’s sourced from grindhouse.

If it’s not on the spleen, or usenet, anyone kind enough to tell me how to aquire this bad boy?

@Dreamaster:

Would you consider re-releasing your corrected version of this project with a higher video bitrate?

This way, folks, here, can load in the audio streams of their choice and not sacrifice the quality of the video, thereby they can appreciate the changes that you’ve made to your work at a higher level. When they are burning the video to a disc, they can decide how much bitrate on the video, itself, to lose to suit their viewing taste.

I would love to get a PM or other directions to finding this. Great work!😃

Got it! Again, outstanding work.

It’s funny this thread got resurrected as I’ve since learned how to manually clean the film… but the process is very time consuming… I keep asking myself if it’s worth two years of work, just to essentially get a noisy version of the film. But I’ve also seen another source for colors, and with two scene exceptions have luts that seem to work across a reel by reel basis, partially because I’ve also since learned to read and use lumetri scopes to color match.

I just don’t know.

With results like this, you might have to remove “Grindhouse” from your project title. 😉

I’ve cleaned 4 minutes of film during the last week. Doing the math, that puts me at 10 months if I go at a slightly lower 3 minutes a week pace.

So next Novemember/December 2018… God willing… I’ll be back with something very cool. 😃

If that is the case, then may I ask you, again, to consider releasing your current work (v2) with the higher video bit rate, minus the multiple audio channels, to tide us over?

Those of us with bigger displays would like to experience the improvements that you’ve made in its full glory.

Furthermore, I’m sure there are experts here that can mux the multiple audio tracks with the higher bitrate video file and create a BD50 disc out of it.

I’m really sorry Alex but I’m just not seeing any compression artifacts in that video. I see a ton of other issues, LOL… but not compression issues. ESB Dreamastered is denoised with non-matching grain on top. Whatever you’re seeing that is offputting probably has a lot more to do with the process than bit starvation.

A guy named Skydude has shown me it’s better to blend the denoised with the original, but of course that didn’t make sense here because the original is so trashed up.

Reel 4 cleaning is finished. I started with that one because I’m a big Yoda fan and it’s probably the easiest of the reels to clean. When the whole project is done I might do a raw “noisy” version and then another version with Skydude’s technique. For the noisy version a BD50 release would make more sense.

Just thought I’d show some comparison photos between the original Grindhouse release and this shot by shot CC and denoise.

Dremaster, your work is F**KING beautiful. I almost can’t believe this is from the Grindhouse. I also love the colors. I genuinely think this is the most accurate source in terms of color, at least with Luke on the tauntaun. I have an old copy of From Star Wars to Jedi on tape and given the far inferior picture quality, I think this version (with the exception of the flickering colors) is the most accurate. Again, outstanding work. I really cannot fathom what kind of technical wizardry you must have performed on this to get it to look this good, slight DNR issues and flickering colors be damned.

Luke astro-projects himself to Salt Lake Planet, gets shot at by gorilla walkers, has a non-lightsaber duel with Darth Millennial, then dies of a broken heart, inspiring broom boys throughout the galaxy to get creative with their sweeping. - DuracellEnergizer

I think I need to finally try and get a Spleen account. Are there invites that are sent out? Or do they open it up every now and then?

Invites have been closed since early September, sadly.
The Original TN1 Renegade Grindhouse is available on Usenet and on popular public torrent sites. I don’t know about Dreamaster’s colour-corrected versions.

Does this mean that if you didn’t have a MySpleen account by that time, you’ll never be able to get one?

And if so, is there any other way to acquire Dreamaster’s ESB Grindhouse cleanups? They are absolutely astonishing!
