Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17) — Page 2

Unless someone can prove it’s going to hurt independent films from getting made and released or something, I doubt the Feds are going to care that much. Disney might have to shed some of it’s other assets, (they had to sell a local L.A. station they owned once they bought ABC) but the Fox film library is probably what they’re after.

I for one welcome our new Disney overlords.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Going to be honest–
Besides X-men, what popular movies/ franchises does 20th century own? This is actually a serious question. I have no clue.

Alien ?

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Off the top of my head…

The Day The Earth Stood Still

A good chunk of Marylin Monroe’s body of work.

Alien and the Predator films.

The Die Hard movies.

Planet Of The Apes original films, tv series and reboot.

M.A.S.H tv series and film.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The 1960’s Batman tv series and feature film.

Every Irwin Allen 1960’s SF/fantasy tv show. Lost In Space, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Land Of The Giants Also his biggest and best disaster flicks such as the original *The Poseidon Adventure.

And a back catalog of old movies and tv shows as impressive as MGM or Warner.

Something I don’t think any of us have pondered before. Who owns the Holiday Special? Fox or Lucasfilm?

Just what sitting on the bookshelf in front of me (and that Wook didn’t mention): Young Frankenstein, The French Connection, Independence Day.

A few more to add to Wook’s list, just from my personal collection:

Patton

Cast Away

Mrs Doubtfire

Home Alone

X-men
Deadpool
Kingsmen
The god awful chipmunk movies
Fantastic 4
Star Wars (1977)
That is all I can think of off the top of my head because you mention the ones I would mention
And yes Disney owns the holiday special because abc produced it

My hopes just got dashed against the rocks like the waves in the seas 😦.

I’m not surprised, Fox is like the only thing that matches their power.

The fact that they were even talking about doing this says to me that the two parties will eventually hammer out some kind of deal over ANH.

I think Disney should also buy back the rights to the clone wars from Warner Brothers so it can get a proper ending and so they own all of star wars.

WB only distributed the theatrical TCW film and released the show on video. I’m sure all the rights have always resided with Lucasfilm.

Then why did they cancel the show when it was so close to being finished? 😦

Disney pulled the plug not WB.
