I am trying to reedit the PT and I am using NLE Sony Vegas suite with Acid and Sound Forge. I want to work from the best quality source audion and video. What software should I use? I've done alot of prep work scripting and ripping soundbytes, now I need to get down in it. Thanks

Edit: this is assuming you want to work from the DVDs as source:

I use Smartripper, using the "demux to extra file" option to rip an m2v (an mpeg 2 file with video only). You should be able to import that into most video editors.

It doesn't really matter though, as any ripper (DVDDecrypter is another popular one) will give you the same data.

Question about ACID and Sound Forge. Do those only edit audio? Can you import a completed video so that you can track music to it?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Sound Forge and acid do audio, yes, but they are sony products and can work well with Vegas, like Adobe has a suite of products...sony does the best with sound over all the suites and can do 5.1 soundfields, etc. Which is why I chose and it rated on par or above premiere as an NLE. As far as ripping an mpeg2 and and audio seperately is there not a way to rip both at the same time? Would it be better to use .VOB files. I have never done a rip to edit before so I don't know. I've done amateur films, thats it. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know how to rip the AC3 so I can edit it. I'd like to grab some tracks from both DVD and DVD-audio in 5.1

Smartripper will "demux to extra file" on an AC3 track too, but I don't know if will work on DVD-Audio - I suspect not.

Vobrator will do it also, but it's a little tricky to work.

Here's an easy way to do it if you have DVDLab/Pro. If you drop a VOB into the assets box, it will demux the audio and video automatically for you. If you want to do the entire film, you can join all the VOBs first. (Make sure you have NTFS first. Win95/98 can't deal with file sizes over 2 Gbs.)

Obi-Wonton (I love that name), e-mail me with your message. I've PMed it to you.
