Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released) — Page 41

We can’t use this version for projects, we can only use it “personally”. Anyway, we could do our own 4K scan sometime and the quality would be much better than the version we’re talking about here. We just have to wait for a print to be available… or find one!

That’s true. Assuming how well said print holds up depending on age.

I find it really not cool for some who have the 35mm song of the south in 1080p of 20GB not to share it to others, so the person who put it line on newsgroups and meesplyn did not want it to be online it Had only to put it.
I ask for a charitable soul to share it with me personally because I’m really looking for it since a damn time !!
So be a sharer if you like !!

Guys we can’t distribute the scan that someone else did and doesn’t want distributed. The 16mm scan is excellent and I would suggest viewing that until we can get our hands on a 35mm print and arrange our own scan.

Bill Hunt says Disney has a 4K scan of SOTS but have no plans for it yet.

“FYI, a couple of other bits of interesting information that Chuck passed on to us from last night’s Wexler event: About 100 of the 400 or so classic Disney animated shorts have been scanned in 4K (at Warner) and restored. Also, new 4K restoration work has been done on Disney’s Song of the South to fix certain shots previously out of alignment (because of a faulty camera used during the original photography), though no public release is currently planned. Fascinating”

(I know this story has somewhat groundbreaking info on Star Wars, but I want to keep on topic).

Yeah it’s weird that they haven’t exactly kept this secret, given they have no plans to release it. They showed a couple clips of it at a small panel on restoration at the last D23 expo. The entire room got excited before the guy very quickly explained it was just for archival purposes.

For what it’s worth, the person who did the scan gave me his blessing to distribute it privately.

In that case be prepared for an onslaught of Pms. (That’s plural of PM, not pms, just in case you were wondering, like I know you weren’t.)

Geez, imagine the groans after hearing that!

Can someone who has the skills to REGRADE and LIGHTEN/COLOR CORRECT the 35mm edition do so? It’s rather dark version.

I didn’t PM him a link to a copy, I was told the person in charge of the scan didn’t want it shared & I always respect the wishes of those in charge when it comes to film scans. I figured he was most likely bullshitting about being a member and I asked a ? to get confirmation.

Edit: I know there’s a copy on MS using the source Colson mentioned with a few changes here & there, however that’s not the one I’ve got. My point was I had zero intention of helping someone out who was obvisouly lying about having an account at MS & who only made an account here to get his hands on SOTS then fuck off which is exactly what was in his/her mind. The other version of the scan with changes (V2 I think?) is on a few trackers but if you haven’t a membership the good Sir a few posts up may be able to help you out with the original 😉

Regarding the “V2 Disney’s Song Of The South [35mm Restoration]” of SOTS on myspeen, has anyone noticed that the audio is a little desynched? It uses 35mm footage with audio from the BBC HD broadcast.
