Yes, that is what I said. What is your point?

Author

It wasn’t my point; it was Frink’s.

Author
Time

True. But I still don’t understand the point being made.

Author

The point is that you think it’s getting worse and worse. Which is funny. Because black people would probably say what is getting worse and worse is the police killing them. But you know, protesting during the anthem is the real problem.

I think both are a problem. Obviously the wrongful killing of African Americans is a more serious problem. This does not mean that people protesting the anthem is not a problem.

That said, I am not so sure that the cops wrongfully killing African Americans is happening as often as BLM would have you believe.

I think it’s happening a lot more often than you’re willing to believe (and/or are comfortable with believing).

I think that in hindsight people will be more forgiving of the anthem protestors. Everyone was about equally furious at Sinéad for tearing up the pope’s picture on SNL but I think now every rational person on earth would say she at the very least had a point.

what point was that?

That the higher ups, including the pope, of the Catholic Church were as much to blame for the pedophilia scandals as the child-molesting priests because they covered it up for so long.

Where pedophilia scandals being discovered back when she tore up the picture? I don’t remember the pedophilia scandal being all that big at that point in time.

 (Edited)

That was literally the whole point of her tearing up the photo (JEDIT: to bring attention to it because it wasn’t widely known yet), but no one listened to her because everyone loved the Pope.

It hadn’t blown up yet. Now that we know about it, most people agree that it was a bold and awesome move of her. And she took a huge risk that damaged her really promising career as a rock star and songwriter.

THIS! Brother got it right and beat me to it. Way to make me redundant!

I’d be interested in hearing ric_olie_2’s take on the incident.

It’s possible and I hope you’re right, but institutional racism is unfortunately something a large number of people will never ever admit is a problem.

He might think that SNL is an inappropriate venue for such a statement. I personally think it’s one of the most beautiful and stunning protests ever done by a musician.

Maybe, but I’m talking like 25 years down the line. At the very least, people who aren’t intensely denouncing the athletes but still are frustrated will get it a little more.

I too think that history will treat the anthem knees very well. It may take a while, but it will happen. The “black power” salute at the 1968 Olympics was arguably much more inflammatory… when I was a kid that wasn’t even considered controversial - it was considered outrageous! But history has treated them very well. Also noteworthy was the immediate support those athletes received at the Olympics from from their competitors, including the white ones.

Why even bother arguing with him when he still doesn’t even understand what’s happening after having it spelled out for him upwards of 20 times? They. Are. Not. Protesting. The. Anthem. Protesting the anthem and protesting DURING the anthem for exposure aren’t the same fucking thing but I don’t know why I’m bothering to explain this because I know you still won’t accept it.

Graham: ‘The war is headed to Africa’ (CNN.com)

I like how he says follow the enemy when he really means follow the mineral resources. The Chinese will not like US neocolonial adventures in Africa. It’s been their arena for decades now. The political elites collect wealth like I collect computer games that I haven’t the time to enjoy. The world would be a better place without them
