Been trying to get in shape lately (I stopped saying “lose weight” to people because I got sick of the “But you’re so skinny, you don’t need to lose weight!” responses - sure, I wasn’t an orca, but I’d been too self-conscious to take my shirt off around other people for years), and I hit two milestones today that made me very happy:
- 120lbs (pretty much my final weight goal - I’m a 5’7" small-framed dude and when I started trying this I was 155lbs, and at my worst I was 165-170)
- I could see ab muscles when I looked in the mirror for the first time in my life!
Now I just have to lose the last little bit of belly/hip fat and build up/tone some muscle to keep myself at 120-125. I’m like 98% of the way to where I wanted to get when I started actually trying, and while it took longer than I wanted, it didn’t take nearly as long as I feared. We’ll see how long it takes for that last 2%.
Get in shape while you’re young and keep yourself there, kids. It gets harder the older you get and the more you let yourself go. I’m just glad I finally tackled this at 28 instead of in my 30s or 40s, but hell if I don’t wish I’d done this at 18 and maintained from there.
