Anyone not satisfied with how Army of Darkness turned out – anyone who would’ve preferred a darker, gorier film in-line with The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II – should certainly check this adaptation out.

I don’t buy them regularly anymore, so perhaps they’re exceptions to the rule, but whenever I do pick up a Simpsons comic, I always find they capture the spirit of the early seasons perfectly; the plots are creative and well executed, the characters aren’t unlikable caricatures of themselves, and the humour isn’t inane and asinine. Now why is it that the comics are able to produce quality stories almost as good as anything from the classic seasons, but the show itself churns out nothing but the same insipid drivel over and over again?

PROS
- Eduardo Barreto’s art is damn strong.
- I like the “crime fiction” angle of the story.
CONS
- I read this several years too late; it revealed nothing of the post-Crisis Luthor I hadn’t already gleaned from other Superman comics and Wikipedia.
- Perhaps Clark should’ve been the reporter who uncovers the dirt on Luthor. As it is, his part in the story was tangential and didn’t really serve a purpose.

If I’d known Mignola didn’t do the interior artwork, I probably would’ve skipped this. As is, it’s just an unremarkable Lovecraft pastiche with ugly artwork.

I’ve been reading Geoff Johns New 52 Justice League. Sigh. I had such high hopes.
Skip anything and everything from the New 52 and go into Rebirth. Actually, the JL book still sucks, but I’m enjoying Superman (editorial costume mandates aside), and I’ve heard great things about other books. Or go backwards and read older stuff, but seriously, I highly reccommend avoiding most, if not all, of the New 52.

I would have to disagree in one lone example…New 52 Batman was consistently the best book DC offered and iscwell worth checking out. But other than that, you’re 100% correct.

I’ve heard good things about The Flash, Action Comics, Scott Snyder’s Batman run, Wonder Woman, Batwoman, Swamp Thing, Nightwing, Resurrection Man, All-Star Western, O.M.A.C., and the darling of the whole thing, Animal Man. Johns started another Justice League books shortly thereafter, and apparently the Justice League International book was actually kind of fun.

I’m still keeping up with a few DC books. Superman had a mediocre couple of months while Tomasi and Gleason took a break but they’re back now and having fun with (now good guy) Lex Luthor on Apokolips.
Dan Jurgens is doing good stuff with Action Comics, and even took a reveal I would normally have hated and made me like it. Or maybe I’m a DC corporate shill, idk.
Nightwing was pretty good, but I’m not a fan of how they practically tossed out a character I liked just so Dick could hook up with another girl.
The new Mister Miracle limited series has consistantly impressed me so far.
Metal, the big event crossover right now, is stupid and ridiculous and I still like it for some reason.
And not from DC, I’ve read the first few issues of The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye (2012) and a comic about giant transforming robots has no right to be as good as it is.

Typical of Miller, it’s darker and more adult. There are a handful graphic novels I reread every year or more. This one just joined the list.
