Aren’t the Fleischers on the Anthology box set already?
They are with many audio flubs. The standalone reissue fixed a few and the Mild Mannered project addressed the others. However the Warner transfers are supposedly from an HD scan of the original elements so a BD would be staggering.
The original announcement is on the WAC facebook page.

Awesome WAC is releasing a full widescreen OAR with DTS-HD MA 2.0 on a pressed Blu-ray disc for the TV cut of SUPERMAN: The Movie! Most likely this’ll be the best looking release so far since it doesn’t have to compete with the HD DVD of the Special Edition (2000) version for bitrate. Theatrical is fine too but could appear even better. Obviously zero commercials.
Now for the eventual, hopeful, TV Cuts for II & III to appear through WAC. Maybe even both cuts of SUPERGIRL could be a 2 BD50 release through WAC sometime too?
The cover looks a bit shit.

More like it:
Well, folks,
It’s time for me to chime in as I promised. This news is very historic for all Superman fans who have clamored for decades on an official release of the long version, and finally, just in time for Christmas, we will be able to hopefully burn all those bootlegs people have been making of the TV cut of STM. My congratulations for WB for finally making it happen. And although Criterion didn’t get on the bandwagon on this (perhaps they will next year when and if they do a 4K of the theatrical cut along with the two other versions), this is only the climax of a celebration that began for all of us in 1971, when Ilya Salkind conceived the idea for a Superman movie, through its original theatrical release, and so forth. Somewhere in the next dimension, Christopher Reeve is proud that the upcoming blu ray will please all fans.
So, what next? Who knows. For now, let’s enjoy the new release.

Here’s hoping they can be convinced to follow this up with the extended cuts of the others, especially 2. xD

Perhaps a new KCOP/Salkind International edit will be done mixing widescreen and full frame as has been done in the past, except this time with superior elements. Either way, excited for this news. The KCOP/Salkind International cut was taken down from caped wonder, for obvious reasons, but interesting that it finally appeared after all this time. Always wonder if the cut at caped wonder may have hinted at an official cut coming…perhaps even to gauge fan interest. Either way, excited. Hoping for all movies to receive the same treatment.

The impression I got from the description was that the whole 3+ hour cut will be in widescreen.
Since WB does now have all the original film elements, it is logical that it be released in widescreen for the first time. Putting it all together for HD I imagine was a challenge (as it is for all remastered films), but worth the effort. Buying the blu ray will be your way of thanking WB.

It will also encourage them to release the extended versions of II to IV, hopefully.

Oh wow, this is some good news. I hope it’s going to be released worldwide.
It would be great, but the description on the pre order frame says “full frame.” So, I am not so sure it will be widescreen.

I was really hoping for widescreen.
It is widescreen, according to this…

Here’s an example of a scene with alternate takes and angles used. Some trims and alterations to the timing have been made to keep things in sync.
Hi, this is my first post on this website. I’ve been researching the Superman saga for a while now, and I thought I’d fill you in. The alternate camera angles of Zod in the TV version are the same ones that appeared in the Lester theatrical release. The majority of that scene was shot by Donner in 1977, but in order to receive full credit on the film, Lester reshot several scenes that Donner already filmed. Note how the background behind Zod is different in Lester’s version. It wasn’t until the Donner cut that this scene was restored to its original form without Lester’s refilmed close ups.
For more info on the differences between the two versions, here’s a handy guide courtesy of Capedwonder:

I think this information is pretty well known by most know. Spotting who shot what is easy enough due to the different look of the actors.
The point of that clip was to recreate the TV cut version of the scene in widescreen, using video from the bluray. There are several identical lines between the theatrical and Lester, that are filmed from different angles and read at different speeds. For example “What do you want? I can see the greed written on your face”, is in the TV version as filmed by Lester, It’s in the Donner cut as filmed by Donner, and it’s not in the Theatrical cut at all. So the Donner shot was retimed to fill in for the Lester shot as that is presently all we have.
Hopefully this sort of workaround won’t be needed soon, and we can get an official release from WB.
WAC does full on restoration work of every title they release if they can. If there is nothing available they use the best element for a 2k scan and if that isn’t up to scratch they sometimes get to do a 4K negative scan.

At the link for the pre-order, look at the aspect ratio. It states 16x9 full frame. There are two different ratios, as there are two different cuts it seems. The full frame is what makes me think we may not get a widescreen. Link below.

It says “2.40:1” which IS widescreen.
My concern is the 2.40:1 is the aspect ratio of the already released cut that is on there and the full frame is the previously unreleased extended cut. Why else include the words Full Frame?
Full frame as in anamorphic?

It’s 2.40:1 as stated on blu-ray.com forum. Damn, do the research and scroll up to JayArgonauts post for the complete information. OAR and in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 to boot.

Try being a little nicer when you post.
Where were you in '77?
I did see JayArgonauts post, and I looked at the link. I appreciate him posting it. The issue is the link he posted has some slight differences from the link for the preorder, namely his link lists 16x9 letterbox, while the order page lists 16x9 FULL FRAME. It’s an odd choice to list is as full frame, and considering the International Cut was only ever shown on TV in fullframe as opposed to widescreen or letterbox leads to the question. I have done the research and checked it out. Not sure where the anger is coming from considering I haven’t asked anything out of lack of research. The same question has been brought up on other boards, where some people have actually reached out to WB for clarification.
As an aside, I have loved being a part of this community for quite some time. This is the first time I have ever had such a response. Oh well, have a great day! I hope it is in widescreen.
