Ok I will add this but I want to steer clear of TV versions and also Superman 1 and 2 shot back to back… But I will say it qualifies.

110 hours of aerial footage was shot for Battle of Britain (1969), of which only 40 minutes appeared in the film. The unused footage still shows up regularly in TV Shows and movies about the period because today it costs more than $10,000 an hour to rent a real Spitfire for a film, so licensing the footage is usually much cheaper. Also, the production had 32 flying German Heinkel 111 bombers to play with (on loan from the Spanish Air Force at the time), but today there are none - The one featured in Dunkirk (2017) was a scale model. Here is a list of films and TV Shows (that I know of) which used some of the footage shot in the summer of '68 for Battle of Britain - but there are probably more!

• 1971- Dad s Army - Film spin off of the popular television series
• 1972 - The Pathfinders - ITV television drama series based on the exploits of Bombers Command’s Pathfinder Force
• 1972 - Our Miss Fred - Film comedy starring Danny la Rue
• 1976 - Carry on England - Film from the long running Carry On series
• 1976 - Battle of Midway - War film dramatising the Japanese attack on Midway Island in 1942
• 1979 - Breakthrough (aka Sergeant Steiner) — War film starring Richard Burton
• 1984 - The Secret War of Jackie s Girls — ITV television drama series
• 1986 - Murrow - Channel 4 television drama based on the life of Ed Murrow, wartime news correspondent
• 1988 - A Piece of Cake - Television drama series based around an RAF fighter squadron in 1940
• 1999 - Finest Hour - BBC Television documentary series chronicling the events of 1940
• 2001 - Dark Blue World - Czech film about Czech pilots in the Battle of Britain
• 2010 - First Light - TV Movie based on biography of WWII Pilot, Geoffrey Willum

Wow that is some list and research there Willarob… You might have noticed it’s been brought up already in the thread already about this but unconfirmed and also Tora Tora Tora! Aerial footage too.

It would be some crazy project to assemble all this footage or outtakes into The Battle of Britain movie… Ridley scott is apparently planning to head up a remake soon.

I will add this to the list thanks for this input!

Seeing a clear trend in aerial footage which is interesting.

Spider-Man 3: A scene towards the end of the film has Harry Osborn remembering mourning over his father Norman, using a deleted scene from the 2002 Spider-Man where the younger Harry cries over his father after finding the latter’s body still in uniform as the Green Goblin.

HALLOWEEN II (1981), begins with a reprise from the end of the original film. Laurie tells the two kids (she’s babysitting) to go next door to the McKenzie’s house and call the police. This is a different take from the one used in HALLOWEEN (1978).

A stock footage website called MrFootage has some aerial shots from Battle of Britain in their archives. Not sure if any of it is unused, though.

Ok So after a Lord of the Rings Marathon the other day I realised although the films were shot all together when it came to editing the films some things became apparent,

Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson

Although in terms of the Lord of the rings books the climax of “The Two Towers” was always the battle at Helms Deep and also Frodo being stung and paralysed by Shelob with also Aragorn taking the paths of the dead…Regardless of this these story elements were always planned to move over to the film “The Return of the King” from “The Two Towers” book including a pairing down of Saruman being stabbed by Wormtoungue on top of Orthanc rather than “scourging of the Shire” as in the book… But in terms of scenes filmed always intended to be in “The Two Towers” Movie that made their way into “The Return of the King” Movie there are a few notable sequences moved to the sequel…

  1. Smeagol (Opening to the Return of the King) fighting and killing Deagol over the lost but newly found one ring of power. Shot for “The Two Towers” but became redundant originally intended to be inserted where Frodo says “Your name was Smeagol was’nt it”

  2. Scenes of Arwen Leaving Middle Earth and premonitions of a child she would bare with Aragorn were also shot and intended to go in to “The Two Towers” but made their way in to the sequel.

Will add to first post.

Just for the sake of a side note there was originally meant to be a meeting between Elrond and Galadriel in Lothlorien in which Galadriel Recited the prologue Dialogue from “The Fellowship of the Ring” in Elvish to Elrond… “The world has Changed” and so on But also with a conclusion about weather to intervene in the world of men which was decided help would be given…the important part that is missing is Arwen also looking into Galadriels mirror upon visiting Lothlorien presumably where she would have seen her possible unborn child from Aragorn which would conflict with Elronds opinion of why she should leave Middle Earth and not choose a mortal life and a conflict over Elronds vision vs Galadriels mirror and uncertain futures.

This was made in to a telepathic communication eventually in editing on “The Two Towers” but ultimately meant losing Arwen looking into Galadriels mirror causing havoc for her subplot.

Another important shuffle in the “Return of the King” is that when Pippin and Gandalf first arrive at Minas Tirith the scene with the Nazgul attacking and a retreating Faramir from Osgiliath were to intersect as in so much as Gandalf arrives at Minas Tirith fending off the Nazgul (Gandalfs light in his staff) to help Faramir escape not already being in the city there with Pippin.

Continuing some research on Lord of the rings trilogy.

More Deleted and alternate material can be found witin the EA games “The Two Towers” at the end video upon completion extra shots or alternate shots of the Uruks ramming the door and also a unique shot featuring Gandalf and the riders coming down the slope also as the riders clash with the Uruks a deleted scene of an Uruk soldier being impaled on a spear. There is i think a couple of other unique shots to the video footage.

This must have been from an earlier edit of the sequence Battle of Helms deep.
