Return of the Jedi will be the most interesting of the two on what Ady will decide to do. Compared to the first two, this one does need SOME degree of editing … be it story, plot, structure, etc. ANH and ESB were fine on their own movies wise, which don’t need “fixing” for the story or pace. Adding some polish to them like Ady did was perfectly legitimate and did not retract from those edits.

ROTJ does need something. I like the movie, but there is an “offness” to it compared to the other two. Nostalgic, yes, but as a movie … needs something. Granted it does not need to be DRASTIC thing done … but definitely needs more editing then revisiting.

Granted, Ady did fantastic with the previous two, so I am happy to wait and see what he does. Its good for people to talk about it and throw ideas since some of these turds could be simple gems for Ady to use. 😉

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I think that the “offness” you refer to is the result of Gary Kurtz leaving following a tough ESB production. When that happened George Lucas had no one left to reel him in and actually craft a good “story”; characters and logic took a back seat to thrills and toys. In my humble opinion, not having anyone to challenge Lucas was the reason that everything was downhill after ESB. But that probably belongs in another thread.

If Ady can make some changes to improve the tone, tighten the narrative, and add some depth then I have no doubt that it will make a movie that you will love to watch, even if it’s not what you or I personally envisioned.

I think that he’s earned that amount of trust.
