RIGHT NOW THE ONLY INFORMATION I HAVE IS THAT THEY ARE "BONUS FEATURE" DELETED SCENES. THE REST IS SPECULATION ON MY PART.

I know that for most normal web users, all caps comes across as shouting. But it's really just Dayv's way of making his messages stand out. You gotta admit, every time you see all caps in a post, you don't even need to look to see who's posting, now do you?

And we've all gotten used to it, so fo most of us it's a non-issue.

On a completely unrelated topic: DAYV, I ran my first tandem screenings of ROTS on Saturday. Truly a bizarre experience.

GUNDARK, DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THE INTERLOCK (tm) SYSTEM ??? WHEN I WAS MANAGING A UNITED ARTIST THEATER WE ONLY HAD FOUR MOVIES BUT TEN SCREENS. I THINK WE HAD ONE PRINT OF PULP FICTION ON THREE SCREENS AT ONE TIME. I LOVED BEING UP IN THE BOOTH AT THE BEGINNING OF PULP FICTION, BECAUSE AS SOON AS JUNGLE BOOGIE STARTED PLAYING I WOULD CRANK THE SOUND SYSTEM UP TO EIGHT. NORMALLY WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TURN IT UP PAST FIVE IN ORDER TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM GOING DEAF. ONE OF THE TIMES THAT I DID IT PEOPLE ACTUALLY GOT UP AND STARTED DANCING. IT WAS BLOODY AWESOME.

I wish they would have turned up the sound during Ep III, I had to strain my ears to hear some of the scenes.

I would love to get a job as a movie projectionist just for kicks. I always thought it would be the ideal job to research what works and what doesn't in movies.

On a side note, we received instructions from GL himself that the volume for all ROTS screenings was to be turned up to the Dolby Digital reference level of 7.0. Good and loud.
Yes, I love the Interlock (tm) system. Ours is particularly easy to operate b/w theatres 8 & 14. I have yet to try the three-for on screens 10, 11 & 12, and frankly, that one scares me. What automation system were you using, DAYV? We have TA-10s.

can someone explain this interlock system for those of us not in the know?

from what i can gather it basically connects multiple screens and plays the one movie really big on the joined screens. Is this correct? is there more to it? does it use multiple projectors?

Interlock allows you to play one print of a film on multiple screens. In the case of my theatre, we ran the film from the platter in theatre 14 down through the projector, back up the platter tower, but instead of running it to another platter on the same tower (standard practice), the film ran through another set of rollers across the ceiling to theatre 8, where it ran down the tower, into the projector and onto an empty platter on theatre 8's platter tower. The procedure was reversed for the late show.
Here's some pics:

The automation panel. The blue button is used during interlock.

The cue detector.

The remote status box. This is how I know if there are problems with any of the projectors (other than focus, sound, etc).

Have I mentioned how much fun this job is?

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

ok, so the film basically comes out the reel into a projector, out of that projector into another projector, out of that one and into a new real? so one of the screens will be slightly behind the other.

sounds pretty neat. wouldnt the studios be opposed to that though seeing as how you can buy (rent, however its done) less reels of the film? or is there a 'licensing' fee per screens you show it on? I dont really know much about theater operation.

so how many screens does this allow you to show the same reel on?

Here's some interesting stuff. Pretty much a no brainer, but still interesting to read...

Studios speed up DVD release dates amid slowdown

Driven in part by concerns about a potentially slow DVD summer, the studios are ratcheting up release schedules for August and September, in some cases pushing out titles significantly earlier than under normal patterns.

"Guess Who," for example, recently was slotted for an Aug. 2 release by Sony Pictures. That's just 130 days after the film, which earned $67.1 million at the box office, opened in theaters. It's also two weeks shorter than Sony's average 144-day theatrical-to-video window.

Similarly, Paramount has scheduled "Sahara," which earned $61.7 million in theaters, for an Aug. 30 release, 144 days after its big-screen bow. Paramount's average window during the past eight years for films with theatrical earnings of at least $25 million is about 167 days.

"The fact of the matter is, the closer a video release is to a film's theatrical opening, the higher the awareness and, generally, the better the sales," said Thomas Lesinski, worldwide president of home entertainment at Paramount Pictures.

Indeed, during the past few years, theatrical-to-video windows have steadily shortened. So far this year, the average window for titles with box office earnings of at least $25 million is about 139 days, according to the DVD Release Report. That's down from 146 days last year, 153 days in 2003 and 171 days in 2002.

Several underperforming titles this year are coming to DVD at breakneck speed. Warner's "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" and Sony's "XXX: State of the Union" are coming to DVD in the summer, less than 88 days after their theatrical debuts. And 20th Century Fox's "Flight of the Phoenix" hit DVD in March, a scant 74 days after its December opening in theaters.

"Underperforming," thats putting it nicely.

I guess now we can judge a movie's crappiness by how soon the DVD release date is.
