Stephen King's IT (1990) - Original two-part version! [RELEASED] — Page 3

After some tweaking I have made a video clip of Part 1.
The upscaled LD footage is the final two shots as well as the end credits. I kinda like how they worked out.

The color matching is somehow difficult as the LD footage seems to have some “warp” in it, making it quite difficult to match with BluRay and TV material without having weird color artifacts (especially on titles).

Youtube has removed all the grain, but for the first sample it should do:

Excellent! Not much you can do about the lacking resolution of the LD source, but the colours are spot on! Thanks.

Thank you. I like how DrDre’s tool works, although it is harder now. On end of Part 1, there was BluRay reference footage. On Part 2, there is only the TV broadcast which has good colors. However, as these are two SD sources, they are more difficult to match pixel-wise to achieve correct color analysis. It’s a lot of trial and error for every shot now.

Thanks to SharkRidge, I got his script to work which looks much better than what I had here. It actually results in a softer picture, but has less disturbing artifacts. So now, I am redoing all the footage I already rendered. 😃

Now here is the first draft of the beginning of Part 2.

Some quick notes:

  • There is a transition between HD and SD footage during the intro credits. Unfortunately the HD and the LD sources have different framing, so the transition is not as seamless as I would like it.
  • The last shot of Bill coming up is available in HD (without the director’s credit). I thought about using HD footage here and recreate the director’s title in HD; however, it would differ in quality with the preceding credits.

Thanks! 😃 I see some shots that need tweaking though. Plus, I’ll try a bit of something RidgeShark suggested for the rainbow effect on some material.

As the TheHutt knows, I’ve had a bit of an itch regarding the usefulness of JayArgonaut’s recording. Although it is riddled with MPEG-2 compression artifacts and aliasing, it is still a more modern transfer and I felt it had some potential. So here’s an early draft at reducing its flaws, patching that top left logo with my laserdisc recording, and mixing it with the blu-ray footage.

Looking good, RidgeShark! 😃

I see some artifacts at the logo on sideways pans (because the LD footage is strangely warped at the edges), but I quite like how you matched the colors.

Hey,

Really interested in this project! Did it ever get finished?

Been looking for this for ages, was thinking of buying the VHS and doing a DVD transfer, but your project sounds so much better 😃

Thanks,

Ben

I was basically finished but could not get the original end credits for Part 2. RidgeShark has strangely disappeared. 😦

Wow. What did you replace them with, the bluray version of the end credits?

Can I download your finished project please?

I would also like to download it. Any chance of getting a copy?

It’s not finished yet: the end credits for Pt2 need to be restored to their original form.

Which source do you need exactly? There are plenty to be found on MySpleen. I’m sure we could resolve this quickly.

I am still missing the end credits for Part 2. Else, I would like to bring this project to a closure myself.

Guten Abend.
Is this project still being updated? I’ve never watched IT and have been looking for the original 2 part-er everywhere with no luck. I can’t even locate the 2 VHS tapes from the original release to buy.
I would LOVE to download and watch this version before watching the new film. 😃

I am actually further in this project. The end credits for Part 2 could be re-created using a combination of the part of the credits from the UK TV recording and a part of the credits from Part 1. So I need just to put this all together.

OT: anyone seen or planning to see the film adaptation?

I have to render it yet. 😃
But I already prepared the audio track and two resynched sets of English subtitles (normal and SDH).
