I’m not saying I’m sold on the idea yet, but you can fit Fett’s call between Jabba’s sentence and the arrival at the Pit of Carkoon. Reedit the bit where Fett uses his rope to capture Luke to make it seem like he’s trying to capture him alive, then Vader’s arrival (to an empty Palace) can come after the departure from Tatooine.
It might screw with the pacing, but I think it’s worth an attempt to see how it works. If new footage can be shot and lines can be recorded that don’t sound like bad impressionists, anyway.
Meh. I’m not liking that departure. It’s not necessary to begin with and just adds unnecessary shots to the sequence that takes away the focus on our heroes. To me that will be as unnecessary as Vader’s shuttle landing on his Super Star Destroyer in the Special Edition of Empire. I do not care why Fett is at Jabba’s Palace. He is a bounty hunter and such creatures get paid by gangsters as a regular gig, so I never questioned why Fett was there.
Logically, Fett is not going to try and ‘kidnap’ Luke for Vader in front of Jabba’s entire entourage AFTER Jabba declares he is to be executed for killing his pet rancor and orders him off the plank. It’s ridiculous. He would end up being chased by the entirety of Jabba’s forces for defying the execution order. Fett’s own dislike for Jedi is enough to propel him into trying to take Skywalker out when Luke defies the executioner and clears the skiff of Jabba’s henchmen. The only thing I am interested in changing is how Fett is blown off the skiff and how he is dragged into the Sarlaac. I think Luke should do it with his saber. Han accidentally hitting it with the skiff axe and activating it was never funny. Luke taking Fett out himself would serve to show how powerful he has become. Han should be focused on rescuing Lando - he already has a laugh when shooting the tendril.
I’m not interested in a side-plot of Fett trying to capture Luke for Vader.
