nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Hope score could use a couple retouches. You can't tell me it's perfect. Half of that shit sounds like Planet of the Apes. I'm sure even John Williams would agree considering he's used Vader's signature music in all other 5 films.

EPISODE 4
Enter Vader
Cue generic bad-guy music

EPISODE 5
Cue IMPERIAL MARCH

I won't miss the throw-away 3-second villain fanfare. It never clicked with the other movies. If you're convinced otherwise, please explain to me WHY.

Very difficult to decide, it is...so good, are these movies.
III-VI are so great, and I-II are not as great, but good notheless. Thats all i can really vote.

I voted for Star Wars, by the way.

I had to vote The Empire Strikes Back as number one. It's the one I've seen the most for good reason. ESB had the best acting, plot to action ratio, and dialogue of all six. ESB is also the most emotionally jerking and dangerous in terms of the characters motives. I really saw no downside to this film; as someone stated before, it's perfection.

Second place is a tricky choice. You could make an excellent case for both A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith here. That said, in my opinion Revenge of the Sith edges out just slightly (even though there are large problems with the plot movement and dialogue) because of the sheer emotions I went through while I watched it. I was horrified and entranced. It sickened me and left me speechless. I was stunned. Disturbed. In awe. Disheartened. It's hard to describe what one goes through when watching a movie like Revenge of the Sith.

A New Hope is a movie one needs after Sith. It is exactly what it says it is: hope. It is a fresh start with a character (Luke) who is arcadian and unspoiled by the war and inhumanity of the empire. A New Hope cherishes and celebrates life. Not to mention it is, of course, what kicked off everyone's love for this series. That being said, the pacing and character development far outshine Sith.

Close fourth is Return of the Jedi, the climax and conclusion of the original trilogy. It is an excellent movie and fair culmination to the plot, but overall it does not maintain the simple elegance of A New Hope or the sheer supremacy of Empire Strikes Back.

Distant fifth is The Phantom Menace. No question it suffered though a retched reliance on CG. There were several casting decisions that I did not agree with, namely Jake Lloyd as Anakin, who I felt did a poor job of it. But then again, I'm almost never pleased with children's acting. It takes a great script to make it work, which unfortunately, The Phantom Menace did not have. The plot did not involve us at all in the lives of the characters, and even more deplorably, neither Darth Maul nor Obi-Wan received characterization or development at all. This is not even discussing Jar Jar Binks.

In far last place stumbles Attack of the Clones. Horrible acting, especially on the part of Hayden Christensen. Horrible script. What plot it contains is only an afterthought to the action/ CG shots. Attack of the Clones barely deserves to be called Star Wars when compared to the original trilogy. Whoever voted for this on an original trilogy forum was either just trying to be funny or just trying to stir up trouble.

Thanks,
Birdie

I on the other hand wonder why ROTJ and TPM are an option for people to vote them!
You know, you should get that Windows message: "Are you sure you want to vote for ROTJ?"
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Episode 6 was a bit pointless. I'm sure that if you did a bit of editing of Episode 5 and filmed a couple more shots, then you woudn't need ep6

I have been a SW GEEK since I was 12 in 1977. I think I've got a lot of the stuff down pretty good (SW / PT Apologist level) and while watching ROTS I found myself saying "I KNEW IT!!!" throughout the movie. I was pretty pleased w/ ROTS. I wish they discussed more of why C-3PO (and NOT R2-D2) needed a memory wipe. Also I wished they discussed the possibility of Luke one day defeating Palpatine.

My rankings of ALL 6 movies:

TPM = AOTC = ROTS = ANH 2004 DVD (minus the 19 frames of blasphemy - "Han Shoots FIRST" always and forever) = ESB 2004 DVD (I like the new Emperor and the new snow beast thingy) = ROTJ (toss up between 1983 and 2004 DVD [minus the horrible "Jedi Rocks song"] - unsure of the Hayden / Shaw swap)

BECAUSE ALL 6 CHAPTERS OF SW MAKES THE GREATEST MOVIE SAGA OF ALL TIME!!!

If a gun was put to my head, I'd say that AOTC was the most disappointing to me. More so than TPM (which was not a disappointment AT ALL). Admittedly the romance of AOTC was hard to swallow. But after reading the book and talking to my fellow Gushing-Geeks (a label I proudly ware I might add), I think a can defend the romance pretty good. If I ever get any re-edit projects off the ground, AOTC's would probably get the most changes and all in the Padme / Anakin romance story line.

On a off topic side note:

I was able to compared the 1977 ANH and the 2004 DVD ANH side-by-side and I have to say the Deathstar battle is MUCH better in the 2004 DVD than the 1977 (TR47 and EditDroid copies).

Seiji,

I'll tell you why I hated ESB at first...

It's because I saw it in the theaters in 1980 and I HAD TO WAIT 3 AGONIZING YEARS to find out what happened next.

my favorite movie when I was a kid was return of the jedi.

a few years ago, i probalbly would have said a new hope.

Now that i'm older, i'd have to say empire because of it's darkness and subtle nuances, and is more adult.

I know that everybody will probalbly think it's blasphemy, but now that i'm older and more jaded i like empire and revenge of the sith the best. kids will always love the adventure, and the positive values of the original films including episode 1. in fact among most children today phantom menace is their favorite film.

My nephew when i showed him the first five films, wanted to watch attack of the clones and the phantom menace over and over, the original films not so much.

if you look at both trilogies, without whining about how much the prequels suck, you can see the common threads between the films. Luke and Anakin are the same archtypal character they just chose different paths, but they have the same weaknesses common to all men the darkness within, and their yearning and spirit of adventure is the same. if you read the novelizations for all six films , cotinuity errors aside it makes more sense than the films, especially if your familiar with the radio dramas and have read the hero with a thousand faces by joseph campbell.

I've noticed Phantom has no votes too, but its not last either, which shocks me. Jar-Jar, Roger-Roger droids, Jar-Jar, Anakin's whoopees, Gungans slobbering, creepy puppet yoda...hmm. With me its right there with the Ewok movies. Its close. TESB wins this by a landslide and rightfully deserves all accolades. Do we not all like darker story telling here?

Star Wars is the only one I have any interest in anymore.
Empire is ok. After that, I said goodbye to Star Wars in 1983 after seeing Return. I saw Phantom Menace just in case I had made a mistake. I hadn't. It was embarrasing. Haven't seen the last two or any of the altered versions of the OT. Good thing is - since I found you guys, I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Well Return of the Jedi does have it's faults but it is an enjoyable film of the saga.

1. Tie between ANH and ESB - Both great films. I cannot choose between them.
2. Return of the Jedi - Carries the most powerful line in Star Wars History "I am a Jedi like my Father before me."
3. Revenge of the Sith - Makes A New Hope a better film. I feel that this film is the best in the prequel trilogy (which wasn't too bad in my opinion).
4. The Phantom Menace - I thought it was good but no great by any stretch. It is still very watchable and enjoyable.
5. Attack of the Clones - It is OK. Nothing too special. I kinda like it, but some parts are unbearable. I know many people are going to disagree with me, but I actually like the romance part of the story.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

this is simple! ESB hands down! 1. it was the only one directed by a director who understood how to develop characters. 2. It was written by two of the greatest script writers of all. 3. It ended in such an unexpected way, it made you want to see the sequel right away. Now tell me what other movie has made you want to see the sequel right away in star wars?

I acknowledge Empire is the best film, but have a different opinion on what's my favorite. Growing up Jedi (I was 6 at the time so I liked the ewoks) was my favorite and now I'm more particial to ANH. Empire ranks 2nd then followed closely w/ Jedi tied w/ Sith. Then Clones (best movie experience of my life attending the midnight showing however) and last Meanace.

Empire is my personal favorite, as it is the majority of this fourm. My favorite moment in the movie is the lightsaber fight is because Darth just toys with Luke by fighting one handed in the beginning. Then later he takes care of business.

My list is

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. Phantom Menance
