TIE Strikers are atmospheric fighters, which might be neat for the ground battle. However, I don’t see when in the battle they could fit. The shield had to be lowered for Tydirium to land, so I’ve always imagined that there’s a shield over at least part of the surface too. Like the cone that goes up and around the DS2 is still a few miles wide on the surface to protect the shield generator from bombing runs. So any kind of aerial battle would have to happen after the shield goes down, which doesn’t leave much opportunity for air strikes.
As for those mourning the PTR, I firmly believe that Adywan was not your last hope. There are plenty of talented people on this forum and others who have been reworking the prequels for years.
Well, they are mainly atmospheric fighters but as Wiki says:

The starfighter was also useful for shifting supplies and personnel from orbit to the planet surface, thanks to a larger central pod.
They can be used in space and can accompany regular TIE fighters. Their presence in the final battle especially makes sense because it takes place above a planet where it would be most useful for shifting supplies and personnel from orbit to the planet surface and to fend off any attackers if the shield goes down. They should be seen orbiting the planet and moving up to the battle when the fight heats up.
