I wonder when Adywan will look at all of these suggestions and tell us what he thinks?

When you see a post made by a user named “adywan”, you read said post, and it address these suggestions, that’ll be your cue.

^ Yes. And the Shaw ghost doesn’t look older than Obi-Wan’s at all.

Despite Sebastian Shaw actually being nine years older than Alec Guinness in real life.

Why do we keep talking about the Prowse documentary being a possibility? David Prowse is 82 years old. How would that be better then Shaw in any way?

Fair enough 005, didn’t think about it that way, it wouldn’t work.
I think using footage or even a manipulated still of prowse circa age 50 would still seem appropriate for the force ghost.

Is the fact that there is an X-Men villain named Sebastian Shaw a complete coincidence?

I agree with everyone, Jedi Rocks is terrible and it needs to go, but lets face it, Lapti Nek was pretty bad and ridiculous as well. Restoring Lapti Nek as it is would be no improvement at all. I am not certain what could be done about it, but I am sure it could be improved upon.

Also, with all do respect to Sebastian Shaw, I think it would be better if he wasn’t restored to the ending of the movie as a force ghost and he was replaced with David Prowse. (because, you know, he deserves to be in the movie in a more clear way)

They do seem to have a slight resemblance. (a really slight resemblance, more than Sebastian Shaw anyway.) And it would be better if masked of Darth Vader had a voice closer to James Earl Jones’s voice. (I don’t know, maybe someone could make an impersonation of him, same could be said for young Anakin Skywalker from the prequels, a James Earl Jones impersonation would help with that too.) But, as we see Darth Vader without his mask on near the end of the movie and it is obviously the face of Sebastian Shaw, I am not certain if it would be possible to make it work.

By the way, Luke’s deleted lightsaber construction scene was awesome. I would love it if it was restored somehow.

Lastly, I completely agree with everyone who stated Ewoks should be reduced/gotten rid off. They are absolutely ridiculous and only exist to appeal kids and to sell toys. And the way they defeat Storm Troopers with their primitive weapons is ridiculously funny at best. (Not to mention even though “funny” has a place in the Star Wars movies, too much of it just distracts from the experience in a bad way.) I would suggest reducing their impact from the movie. I like the suggestion of adding more rebels. Perhaps some of the deleted scenes could be restored to accomplish that.

I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away..

Well, duh. It’s a franchise where its biggest fans are children.

Because we’re not using the prequel timeline? Phil Brown was 60 when he played Uncle Owen, Shelagh Fraser (Beru) was 56, Alec Guinness was 62. For Anakin to be a contemporary of these people, it would make sense that he would be in his 60’s or 70’s, and he would probably look older than that anyway.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Anakin was Obi-Wan’s padawan. It’s natural that he would be younger than him, and not necessarily his “contemporary.”

The Prequel Trilogy is here to stay as a permanent part of the Star Wars canon whether you like them or not.

True, but Ady also doesn’t have to consider them canon, since these are his personal edits. Personally, I’d prefer he not add elements that blatantly contradict the other films though (moreso than already exist).

If he’s not going to do Revisited versions of the PT, then what’s the point of adding things in the OT that contradict them, especially if, hypothetically, one would want to do a marathon of each movie?

I guess one big question we should ask Ady before making a bunch of radical suggestions is:

Do you intend for ROTJ:R to be like ANH:R and ESB:R, in that it’ll be the “Special Edition that should have been,” or do you intend to make more dramatic editing decisions this time around?

I mean, if you’re definitely not doing any major “fan edit-y” restructuring or anything, then suggesting the reinstatement of deleted scenes, moving Dagobah to pre-Tatooine, etc. are pointless suggestions. Not that saying you won’t be doing any of that will stop everyone from suggesting such things, but it’ll reign a good chunk of us in.

Of course, if you are planning more major changes this time around, I’ve gotta throw my hat in the ring for the Jerjerrod’s Conflict scenes to be reinstated.

Personally, I’d like to see something in between. I don’t want to see too much cutting of existing scenes because every scene is precious to some Star Wars fan. However, I wouldn’t mind some reshuffling, tweaking and adding additional content to improve some of the weak points.

If someone wanted to make a more severe cut of ROTJ they could easily use Revisited as a starting point.

It always struck me more as a brotherhood rather than a father/son relationship, so the 16 year age difference in the prequels always strained credulity for me. But having an 82 year-old play someone who is supposed to be 45 is really stretching it, even granted the terrible deformities and rough life.

What would make the prequels and the OT play nice is if there was a 24 year gap between the PT and OT.
Alec Guinness was 62 in ANH. With a canonical age of 38 in ROTS, this makes him perfectly cast in terms of age, and is more in keeping with the ‘old fossil’ talk in the movie.
Mark Hamill was 25 in ANH. This de-ages him by only one year.
Carrie Fisher was 20 in ANH. This ages her by 4 years, but since she acts older than her age anyway, it’s quite believable.
Phil Brown (Owen) was 60 in ANH. With Joel Edgerton in ROTS being 30, he would be de-aged by 6 years. The years have not been kind for him.
Shelagh Fraser (Beru) was 56 in ANH. With Bonnie Piesse being 22 in ROTS, she would be de-aged by 10 years. The years really haven’t been kind.
Sebastian Shaw was 82 in ROTJ. Hayden Christensen was 25 in ROTS (canonically 23), this would make him 51-53 in ROTJ, a de-aging of about 30 years. It’s an extreme aging, but at least he’s beyond middle age at this point.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

It’s actually a 19 year gap between Episodes III and IV. Close enough. One logical explanation for the fast aging of Owen, Beru and Obi-Wan during that time is simply the fact that they have been living on a harsh desert planet with two suns. There’s also the matter of stress, with the thought of the Empire knocking on your door at any time.

The point was that the 19 year gap increases the canonical age of all but one of these characters past the actor’s real ages, and the 24 year gap returns most of the characters back into a more believable age bracket. It makes sense that Owen and Beru would be older than they looked, and there’s still a substantial age difference there as expected.

You could argue that decades of using the dark side and feeling the full force of the Emperor’s lighting accounted for Anakin looking old under the mask. The emperor looks over 100. Just use stock footage of Prowse at the right age as a ghost.

Wrong. It’s an urban legend. Absolutely nothing to do with kids and toys.
They only exist because Chewbacca got a main role, therefore they could not be Wookies anymore, as they were in early drafts.
Since it is impossible to replace Ewoks with Wookies, getting rid of Ewoks is getting rid of Star Wars, as they were always part of it, from the very first draft.

Why anyone cares about ‘Canon’? It is a Disney business move to make more money, and has nothing to do with what Star Wars is or should be.

I asked and Ady is going to share what his plans were for the prequels sometime in the future. We’ll have a record of what could have been, or rather, what he imagined could have been.

Maybe someone could animate it or something?

Congratulations on ESB:R Ady and very good luck with ROTJ:R. Your two existing works are absolute masterpieces and I look forward to your last.

One important thing: There are a lot of passionate fans of yours here and elsewhere, and because of that passion you’ll be under a lot of pressure regarding certain change requests, the prequels you’re now not doing, etc. Please never let that pressure feel stronger than the support this community has for you. These are your edits, not ours - and while everyone’s passionately eager for different things, you have the absolute trust and support of this community. We are certain you will produce something incredible, and everyone will be utterly grateful for the final result, whatever form it takes.

Edit: I’ll be contributing cash early next month.

Seems like no one actually read the whole thing I wrote. I talked about reducing the impact Ewoks cause, I do realize cutting or replacing them entirely would be near impossible at best.

Adyone already said he would be removing slapstick Ewok moments, I was just suggesting restoring some of the deleted bunker scenes and removing even more in a tasteful manner.

Either way,

You do realize you are contradicting yourself… First you say it was Wookies in the early drafts, then you say Ewoks was part of it from the very first draft. And it is not an urban legend. George Lucas always had this mindset of adding slapstick moments and adding characters that would (in his opinion) appeal kids and make good toys. Just look at Gungans and Jar Jar, whole reason they exist is the same as well. One could argue, getting rid of them getting rid of Star Wars as they WERE a part of it from the very first draft. But we both know no one, including myself, would agree to that. (in this case, it is actually true, they were in the first draft and your argument is invalid)
