I think I’ve heard people say that “NUKE-YOU-LAR” is an 80s thing.

In slightly older news from the world of biology:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neopalpa_donaldtrumpi

Neopalpa donaldtrumpi is a moth species of the genus Neopalpa occurring in Southern California and Northern Mexico. It was described in 2017 by Canadian scientist Vazrick Nazari. He chose the name because the moth’s head cover reminded him of the hair of then President-elect Donald Trump.

Discovery

The genus Neopalpa, including the species Neopalpa neonata, was first described in 1998 by Dalibor Povolný.[2] Almost two decades later, Nazari reviewed the material, including specimens that had been collected since the first description of the genus, from the Bohart Entomology Museum. He considered that some of the specimens formed a new species. In January 2017 he published an article naming it Neopalpa donaldtrumpi for the yellowish-white color of the scales on the head, which reminded him of then President-elect Donald Trump’s hairstyle.

http://time.com/4637403/tiny-moth-donald-trump/

A new species of tiny moth has been named after Donald Trump, partly because the President-elect’s hairstyle resembles the moth’s distinctive yellow and white scales.

The minuscule creature, named Neopalpa donaldtrumpi, is the first species to bear the name of the soon-to-be president, whose inauguration is this Friday. It was discovered by Vazrick Nazari, a biologist and researcher from Ottawa, Canada.
“The new species is named in honor of Donald J. Trump,” Nazari wrote in a review of the species.

“The reason for this choice of name is to bring wider public attention to the need to continue protecting fragile habitats in the U.S. that still contain many undescribed species. The specific epithet is selected because of the resemblance of the scales… of the moth to Mr. Trump’s hairstyle.”

The micro-moth was discovered in southern California, but its habitat extends to Baja California in Mexico.

Last year a critter found in the Peruvian Amazon hit the headlines because of its striking resemblance to Trump’s hairdo. The flannel moth caterpillar (Megalopyge opercularis), was subsequently dubbed the ‘Trumpapillar’ by researchers, Life Science reports.

I wonder if Trump will be doubling down on moth immigration from Mexico. They’re taking American moths’ jobs, you know.

Oddly enough, I found out about this while looking at the front page of the French Wikipedia, even though I cannot speak French. Don’t ask me why I was looking at French Wikipedia.

I think the cop was trying to make a sarcastic joke, but that was dumb thing to say. Really stupid. In this case, I would understand if this bothered/offended African Americans. At best, this is very insensitive to what is going on in the country right now and with all the problems cops are having with the African American community.

Unfortunately, the H-bomb kills all:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-nuclear/north-korea-says-it-has-developed-advanced-hydrogen-bomb-ready-for-icbm-idUSKCN1BD0VW

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Sunday it has developed an advanced hydrogen bomb that possesses “great destructive power” as U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe talked by phone about the “escalating” nuclear crisis.

The report by North Korea’s official KCNA news agency comes amid heightened regional tension following Pyongyang’s two tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) in July that potentially could fly about 10,000 km (6,200 miles), putting many parts of the mainland United States within range.

Under third-generation leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea has been pursuing a nuclear device small and light enough to fit on a long-range ballistic missile, without affecting its range and making it capable of surviving re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.

North Korea, which carries out its nuclear and missile programs in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions, “recently succeeded” in making a more advanced hydrogen bomb, KCNA said.

“The H-bomb, the explosive power of which is adjustable from tens kiloton to hundreds kiloton, is a multi-functional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated even at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack according to strategic goals,” KCNA said.

“All components of the H-bomb were homemade and all the processes … were put on the Juche basis, thus enabling the country to produce powerful nuclear weapons as many as it wants,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying.

Juche is North Korea’s homegrown ideology of self-reliance that is a mix of Marxism and extreme nationalism preached by state founder Kim Il Sung, the current leader’s grandfather. It says its weapons programs are needed to counter U.S. aggression.

Kim Jong Un, who visited the country’s nuclear weapons institute, “watched an H-bomb to be loaded into new ICBM” and “set forth tasks to be fulfilled in the research into nukes,” KCNA said.

You forgot the rest of the quote that revealed it wasn’t likely an actual H-bomb.

I’m leaning towards this, as well. That said, it’s a horrible joke on a lot of levels. His delivery was awful, if it weren’t for him saying “right?”, I’d have taken him 100% seriously. Also not really the type of situation you should crack a joke in, at least not a joke like that. Not trying to defend him or say that he didn’t do anything wrong, though. I’m thinking he’ll be fired for this for making the department look bad; unlike the cops that actually kill people for poor or non-existent reasons, they’re only placed on leave.

So, not fired, but it sounds like the department wasn’t going to go easy on him.

Suri Chadha Jimenez, a lawyer who represented the car’s driver, said the officer responded in an “unprofessional” way to what he saw as the reasonable concern of the woman, whom he described as a friend of the driver.

“My understanding is the cop is joking,” Chadha Jimenez said by phone, adding that it was “a nasty, sarcastic, untasteful joke.” The driver was later convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol, Jimenez said.

Agreed, especially when you consider that it is in regards to a number of African Americans that have been shot and/or killed by the police. Even if the police were justified in all the various cases, you don’t joke about something like that.

WTF? The real deal or some homemade thing? You sure somebody wasn’t making a movie or something? I would have taken a photo as evidence. Was it taken down?

Banner is probably giving it too much credit. It was more like a shitty flag/sign, since it had some kind of messaging on it. I don’t know if it was taken down. The building was either a really shitty apartment or maybe even completely vacant so it may have taken a while for anyone to figure out who to contact. I personally didn’t see it, just heard from a co-worker. A trustworthy coworker.

Ok, I was visualizing it hanging off an office building or something. Reporting it to the police probably would be the easiest course of action.
