It’s very subtle nudity though. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before so just be mature about it. No one is forcing you to look. I almost never see breastfeeding women in public anyway, and when I do they’re always discreet about it so why does anyone care? Babies have to eat and they’re pretty impatient when they get hungry.

They used to be allowed in PG movies. That’s changed now because people are prudes. I don’t know how other people’s families were, but I grew up in a family that, at times, was pretty big and nudity at home wasn’t common but nobody thought of it as this horrifying thing when it happened. The whole, “won’t somebody think of the children?” argument obviously applies to sexual content, but basic nudity is stuff they’ll see in health class anyway, so why should we be worried about breastfeeding scarring them? It’s something a lot of kids see at home if they have younger siblings.

We are still headed for a second holocaust in the next three years. The United States by 2020 will prove itself to be the most racist and genocidal civilization humanity has ever known. I’m glad people are devoting their time debating about breastfeeding in public, when we have the most evil man ever seen in US history occupying the White House.

I can say the most hyperbolic things here, and they will always pale in comparison with out current reality.

You really don’t know how to make comparisons. If you can’t understand the difference between a woman breastfeeding and the woman next to her that takes off her shirt just to scare you, no one here can help you.

That was not the point of what I said there. I was trying show that just because we allow nude statues in an art museum, doesn’t mean we allow nude real humans.

Of all the things in this world to get bent about, … breastfeeding? Does it really have any impact whatsoever on anyone but the mother and baby? And is there anything more essential to a growing baby? Such a non-issue.

Seems like another example of contradictory “right to life” stuff. All for the baby when it’s in the womb, but once it’s born, more interested in a woman’s modesty than in the baby’s most basic health needs.

Not to mention that in a large number of other western countries, people aren’t as hung up over exposed breasts. Spend some time in Italy and France for another perspective.

Why are you guys arguing with Warbler about his opinion of the (in)appropriatness of nudity in public? He has already made his position clear. Berating him and telling him to “get over it” accomplishes nothing more than to validate the right’s argument that the left is just as argumentatively intolerant of opposing view.

Let the man have his opinion about nudity (which I, by the way, entirely agree with.)

Well, the nudity argument is a separate one from the breastfeeding argument. While I think it’s silly that we treat men’s and women’s breasts differently, it doesn’t really bother me that men can go topless in public and women can’t. But what’s your position on breastfeeding in public? Do you agree with Warb that it shouldn’t be done?

I believe that it might make some people uncomfortable; and while the mother ought to legally be allowed to do so, she also should be kind and considerate by covering up. Also, breastfeeding isn’t the same as bottlefeeding–it’s an intimate moment with a mother and her baby. I believe that a woman would be prudent to either have a cover or a bottle while in public. Neither is difficult to manage.

I understand the position that “people who are uncomfortable should get over themselves”, and perhaps to some degree that’s true. But in my view that is equally as crass as a woman who knows it is bothering someone and does it anyway.
