The Kenobi Movie Show (Spoilers)

Hardly a surprise. I’m all for it if they come up with a good script and Ewan is on board.

Countdown to the inevitable mid-shoot director change…

Harloff has been mentioning / speculating Kenobi as the “next-in-line” for a stand-alone movie for quite some time. Now he better start mentioning a Netflix series about the Old Republic every week and we’ll get one in no time!

This had better be a Yojimbo-Seven Samurai/A Fistful of Dollars-Magnificent Seven mashup where Kenobi plays Tatooine’s criminal elements off of each other in order to protect some innocent moisture farmers.

Haven’t most people been mentioning it as next in line? I’ve not heard anyone seriously mention anything other than an Obi-Wan movie, except for the madmen that are clamoring for Boba Fett movie.

Also, why a Netflix series?

This definitely seemed the most no-brainer choice, but that didn’t mean it was guaranteed to happen. Everyone talking about it was hopeful fans - never been any word about it in the works (even unofficial), unlike the Boba Fett movie.

For whatever reason I’ve never seen a Daldry movie, but he’s something of an Oscar magnet, so he must be doing something right. A very interesting choice for a space wizard movie, makes me think we’ll get something like Star Wars’s first adult drama, which would make sense if it’s a Ben in the desert movie (though of course that’s yet to be confirmed).

Hope that means Ewan is back. Would be great to see him get the chance to really knock it out of the park this time.

I quite liked The Reader when it came out, but I haven’t seen it in almost a decade. As to whether or not Ewan will be back, I think he most likely will, but I’ve also seen it suggested that this might be set before TPM and follow his training. That seems doubtful to me, though, given Liam Neeson’s age. The Qui-Gon character is so beloved among the PT crowd that I can’t see them recasting the role or writing him out, so in guessing they’ll just cover that story in other media.

Well this doesn’t bode well.

How do you make a serious space adventure western? Ahh yes get the director of Billy Elliot and The Reader.

The Kenobi novel is really the best starting point for a screenplay as it is practically already tailor made for adaptation. Personally I would have pitched that but slightly expanded to have at least one off-planet sequence.

At best I get the feeling this will be another TWINE scenario where a more art house type director is hired for a big budget feature and there is a complete disconnect between story, characters and action sequences.

I could see flashbacks with a de-aged Neeson, but yeah a full on TPM prequel seems very doubtful, because at that point you’re basically losing everything that people like about the character.

Maybe Jimmy Smits will get to play Bail Organa again. Bail could have contacted Obi Wan at least once during the Tatooine years.

I couldn’t see anything in that article that suggested this is anything more than a rumour. I’d really enjoy seeing a Kenobi standalone movie and I do hope they make it next but how are these unnamed “sources” any more credible than the Reddit poster who started those “Kenobi Trilogy” rumours?

THR is not reddit. Reddit people are just nerds with computers, THR reporters regularly and accurately get real scoops from real people in the industry, like this. Just because a source is unnamed doesn’t make it untrue.

I really hope they’re right! They’re still journalists though and the article is deliberately vague about where the information comes from. It doesn’t even say if it’s a source from the industry. I’m reluctant to get excited until it’s officially announced.

I’m ready! Bring it on!

I’d love some cameos by the Rebels characters and maybe Ashoka Tano, but it probably won’t happen.

And what about something new in this saga, for a change ? (really new, not a soft reboot à la TFA) Hope Ep.VIII will deliver what I wish for (i.e. being surprised in a good way). There has been 6 movies, 6 seasons of tvseries, and a very beautiful cameo in another tvseries with Ben. I thought it was time to let Kenobi in peace…

That being said, they should take Chris Lennertz to score this one. Or, if available, Chris Young.

Make it a full on spaghetti western samurai movie with Kenobi as a lost warrior saving people from a tyrant.

Awesome news! Hope it doesn’t get bogged down in development hell and we get to see this in 2020.

And that afterward we can get some standalones that are just based in the world and not around existing characters (Han, Obi-Wan) or already-known plot points (stealing the Death Star plans).

But a Kenobi spaghetti Western? I’m all in.
