Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception (Released) — Page 17

Thanks for the feedback! Some of those ideas had been considered, agonized over, and decided upon in favor of what you see in the final version. I sometimes err on the side of keeping something the same as the original when it comes to a plot point, the major exception being Padme’s fate at the end of the trilogy.
The subtitles are all baked into the final versions of the edits, so feel free to translate them to Spanish if you’d like. I won’t be re-releasing them just to include that, but I’m sure there’d be a few people who would like to have them.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I should have joined this forum when you started working in the project,now you have considered all the posibilities an ended with the less bad

Its funny

I can “believe” in hyperdrives and laser swords but not in virginal conception

How can I acess the baked subtitles?
can anyone extract them in .srt ?

And thanks to you for making the edits

Excellent Work! Is there any chance you could upload this to a google drive if possible?

Just wanted to chime in and say, HAL, since you started on these during my absence from the forum, that I’ve since watched all three of your prequel edits multiple times, and they are far and away the best ones I’ve seen! Amazing job, especially on Episode II!

I just finished watching your edit.

Wow!

You made great decisions and I enjoyed what you’ve done. You made Jar Jar much more bearable. That takes serious work!

Also, Anakin was much more confident and less annoying. Good choices. Very good choices on the edits.

Hal, awesome job. I will be finishing the Approaching Storm soon!

Cross-posting this from the DVD cover section, hope that’s okay - only gonna bump your Episode I thread though, not the other two, so as not to clutter up the front page. (ugh, that was too much Reddit-speak in one paragraph, sorry about that…)

Okay, whipped these up real quick - mods of my prequel covers for HAL9000’s edits (running times based on v4.2). … I figure either of the regular TFA covers I made would work for Restructured unless someone wants one that actually says “Restructured” on the case somewhere, or wants the FE logos and stuff on the back.

Album here. (“theatrical logo” spines only; the “saga logo” spines are ready to go if anyone wants them, I just haven’t saved them as JPEGs yet)

I was actually going to say you should do this! Hahaha you’ve done an amazing job, really. Congratulations, these are awesome.

Since you’re making a final v4.3 and you’ve already willing to implement last minute alterations (such as the necklace scene), here are some minor suggestions based on other edits:

  • cut Anakin’s interjection “What are we gonna do about it!” and Qui-Gon’s response (L8 edit);

  • readd “the entire planet is one big city” line (it creates a slight jarring audio cut and I actually don’t mind this line);

  • when Qui-Gonn says “The situation has become much more complicated.” I think you should try to keep the shot of Anakin looking back at him if possible;

  • trims to remove Boss Nass’s blubbering and awkward vocalizations (Octoroxx edit);

  • when they get back to Naboo and that they enter the gungan sanctuary, I made an audio alteration to your edit to get a Jar Jar voice-over saying “When danger, gungans go to secret place” (I think it works great; I can send a sample to you if you’re interested);

  • Octorox take on the battle has a very interesting idea to reduce Jar Jar’s antics with the booma without creating a jarring cut;

  • when Anakin takes the ship to destroy the droids, there is a drop into the sound mix that can be easily fixed (again I can send you the sample I’ve made);

  • maybe readd the shots of Padmé capturing the vice-Roy since there is a rushed cut to that scene that feels a little bit jarring ?

  • Reordered some of the final shots of the film so that Padme smiles at Anakin, he smiles back and then Obi-Wan looks away worriedly, foreshadowing the events of Episode II (Octoroxx edit)

And here is a major suggestion I’ve been thinking about: the Gungan underwater scene. I get the theatrical cut is boring and I love how rushed is the beginning of your edit, but I feel for at least 5 reasons it would be good to reinstall a trimmed version of the Boss Nass first meeting (the underwater journey should remain as it is in your edit: totally removed), playing it somewhere in between what Q2 and L8 did:

  • reason 1: it establishes a first meeting with Boss Nass who plays a major part in the last act (we also get to see the Gungans being technologically advances, hence Padmé’s plan is not that dumb since the Gungans can indeed defend themselves);
  • reason 2: it gives a quick explanation why the Jedi keep Jar Jar along with them;
  • reason 3: Obi-Wan’s “What happens to one of you will affect the other. You must understand this.” is an interesting line since it is somehow a meta comment on what’s going on (a very small event will in the end spark an intergalactic civil war over 9 movies);
  • reason 4: it’s a matter of world building. Gungan City is beautiful and it’s the only city with actual people we get to see on Naboo.
  • reason 5: Qui-Gonn uses the Jedi mind trick here. It established his grey Jedi behavior as well as something that’s will later be explained as a joke by Watto.

What do you think ? (I know I can be wrong about everything in this post, but I guess now is the time to think everything through one last time for your v4.3 😃).

Without going into too much detail, I agree about the “entire planet” line and “the situation has become much more complicated.” The rest… no thanks. 😃

Please do, however, send me the samples you mention. I don’t think I’ll use the one about Jar Jar and the “secret place,” since we wouldn’t have seen their underwater home anyway. I will still keep the underwater sequence out of the edit, for the reasons I took it out to begin with. It’s the Canto Bight of TPM. 😛

Ouch! That’s mean to Johnson… or is it mean to Lucas ? (I really don’t know 😄)

Lol, there’s a good Rorschach test for ya. Wasn’t trying to be insulting to one over the other, just that they are roughly analogous.

I’d suggest you could try to implement something like Octorox’s edit’s version of the first time we see the pod race/first time Anakin turns it on, instead of removing it entirely and using the “Dawn Before The Race” scene. I just think the effects and the quality of the “Dawn Before The Race” one are so different from the rest of the movie that it usually takes me out of the movie completely.

Is there some way to get the Spanish subtitles of this and/or your other PT edits? Or at least the English subtitles in an independent file so I can translate it myself.

I suggest you PM MalàStrana, who created the subtitles. I am currently working on a final version of these three edits, and he is planning to do subtitles for those as well. I can’t speak for his workflow for this, but it may be that he could provide you with finished (synced) English subtitles and you could translate these to Spanish. That would be a welcome addition to this final version, if you are willing.
So far I have sent him a screener for Episode III so he can sync the subtitles, with Episodes I and II coming after.

Thanks for the response, I will talk to him about it and if he can send me those subtitles, I will translate it to Spanish so you can add it to your work.
I’m eager to see your finished product.

Thanks! Here are the subtitles for the final version of Episode III for now:

English: https://mega.nz/#!swkkQZCC!a-r8QciqSRU5e2zA3JZZyI8po_qsaLnNgiPVZXE2P90

French: https://mega.nz/#!UsMDHToa!xwsqyUNeCxpMYvKSQx5N-paqjY6JEzuBDqL7ExyJ2uM

Please note that the opening crawl has been changed, which is present in the French file but not the English. The crawl is as follows:

Episode III

LABYRINTH OF EVIL

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. The fragile government is crumbling under attacks from the ruthless Count Dooku.

In a stunning move, the fiendish cyborg leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and captured Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate.

As the Separatist forces attempt to flee the besieged capital with their valuable hostage, Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor…

My Cloak Of Deceltion’s version’s crawl starts with “Mired by greed and corruption…” but I’ve seen some that starts with “For over a thousand generations…”

Which one is the most recent? And which one will be included in the new version? (Sorry for being confused)

Author
Time

Not a problem. The one starting with “For a thousand generations” is the first one, then “Mired by greed and corruption.”

Here’s what I’ve got for v5:

Episode I

CLOAK OF DECEPTION

The Republic is in decay. After centuries of peace under the guardianship of the Jedi Order, a menace lurks in the shadows of the galaxy.

Attempting to capitalize on the government’s complacency, the greedy TRADE FEDERATION has surrounded the small planet of Naboo with a blockade of deadly warships.

With the newly crowned Queen desperate for help, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights to settle the conflict…
