Anybody else think it’s dumb that Jabba is constantly referred to as “Jabba the Hutt” when Hutt is just the species he is? When I was a little kid, I thought “Hutt” must mean “mob boss” or something.
In old mythology sometimes people are referred to by their ethnicity if it’s foreign to the context the story is set in. I’m recalling a biblical character referred to as Jesham the Arab, for example.
I know what you mean, but in the SW galaxy creatures from all over to travel everywhere and mixed society seems to be the norm.
Heck, in Jabba’s palace, everybody seems to be from somewhere else.
Jabba’s really not foreign in the context he’s presented in. But he is presented as being a powerful crime lord, so it just seems to make more sense if “the Hutt” is his title, a la “the Godfather”.
I’m not sayin’ this was ever the intention, but it works for me.
