no no sage i have a feeling that i ran into some amateur hackers practice virus, or worm or spyware whatever it was.

i figured out how it was keeping explorer busy, some how everytime i opened the folder it was in i guess it kept the folder from completely loading it, and so explorer is kept busy trying to load the file into the folder where i can open it. i ended up deleting it by deleting the folder it was in and bypassing this little loop hole it had. thanks for your help this whole thing has been very educational.

I was going to suggest this to you previously, believe it or not. I've seen the same problem in 2000 and XP with certain mozilla file types. All I'd need to do was click on them and it would hose my interface. Glad it worked out.

Did you ever try that program? If I am understanding you correctly, I had exactly the same problem before and it fixed it in a heartbeat.
