I’m taking a little holiday break, more coming soon…
For now here’s the complete set:
^ Very nice looking, Dre! Do take a well-deserved holiday break, and enjoy yourself in whatever it is that you’d like to do.
Here’s another shot from the Death Star conference room sequence, while being on holiday. I couldn’t help myself 😉.

Bluray regraded:
I love how the last regrade closely matches this production photo in terms of skin tones:
I’m seriously considering finishing this regrade, once project-X is done. Would there be an interest in yet another regrade?
On another note, the various technicolor print scans, and the frames themselves show slight, but consistent color imbalances between shots. Should these be kept for a regrade? What are your opinions on the subject?
Here’s another comparison, where I’ve roughly matched the brightness and saturation (hues are unaltered):
Yes there is definitely interest in a regrade of the Bluray to these colours.
My own preference is to have consistency of colors between shots in a scene so as not to distract me from the experience. I’m sure I will be voted down by the purists though.

My vote: FIX THEM, PLEASE. Especially for the blu ray release which is after all “modern special edition with extra graphix”. 😃 (I can handle the Episode 4 additions… at least it doesn’t have Vader going “NOOOOOO… NOOO!” D&SF(SD&(&(!)
Here’s another shot in Obi-Wan’s cabin.

I can remember back when you first started what a struggle this shot was. Thanks for sharing this journey with us Dr. Dre!
You’re welcome! 😃
Tomorrow I will leave on vacation, so this will really be the last update for the next two weeks.
From an exotic location on a rainy day, here’s a slight update of the Obi-Wan shot:
… and here’s a set of regrades of the Death Star conference room sequence, created by matching a print scan to my earlier regrades, and then applying those colors to the bluray. I’ve left the color imbalances in the print as they are:
WOW
I will prepare a video sample for this sequence.
Here are the latest updates of the regraded shots:
Looks like the weather is still rainy. 😄
Very nice work!
I’m back at it. We had to cut our vacation short, due to a family emergency, which has luckily been resolved. We’ve postponed our vacation to a later date.
I’m currently sorting through the roughly 600 shots I have, putting those shots that belong in the same scenes together.
The bluray regrades/color references I presented certainly have the correct feel. I think they’re about 80% there. My current plan is to tweak each of them to match their respective frames after I’ve finished sorting through them.
Hi DrDre,
I’m glad your family emergency sorted itself out. That can be quite scary. 😦 The images look great to me; it’s amazing to think they started life with the dreadful Blu-ray flaws and yet look so good now. Best of luck to you and your family, and to a happy vacation another day!
What can you get a Wookiee for (Life Day) Christmas when he already owns a comb?
Thanks! 😃
Here are two shots, one of R2-D2, and another of C-3PO with the finalized technicolor color grading of reel 1 for the 4k77 project.
