Not from this certain point of view. I prefer the razor tickle of the original cut. Certainly to the baseball bat fight of Return of the Jedi.

Did you even watch the video I posted?

Yes I did.
I wouldn’t have replied until I had watched the video.

I genuinely see no improvement.
As for justifying what is ‘wrong’ with a thing this highlights something about personal narrative building.
I now see an awkwardness in the way Kenobi tells Luke about his father that makes sense in the context of him being a really awful fibber but originally he was telling the truth.

Yes they actors were holding experimental props on a delicate set but it lent their movements something that added to the narrative of the piece (let’s face it Lucas’ strength isn’t his writing something magical happened largely because of what he couldn’t achieve and how what he did film was later edited by others).

Tom Baker had a particularly pensive way of walking as the Doctor in Doctor Who that was because the set could malfunction at any point but it added to his character. Same with this sword fight (at least from my certain point of view).

The duel in Jedi is far more problematic at times. It just lacks much in the way of panache (until Luke goes ballistic and even then you have that awkwardly choreographed moment where Vader has to get his hand in position to be cut off). Generally it’s bam bam bam kick.

I think the Star Wars duel could be improved with some inserts and different camera angles.
There are some wonky panels in the corridor so maybe Vader could have fun pulling at those with the Force or something but where it does fall a bit flat (the twirl for example) that’s not going to be fixed by just editing. It needs more material.

say what you will about the ANH duel, but it’s way better than this one , and that is with having the tech to use digital doubles:

I have no idea how to describe that… it feels like it should be good by any means, but it is plain horrible. Like lightsabers have no weight or impact to them. Also, it might be just me but they sound all wrong as well.

Also, it doesn’t count, with certain exceptions, prequels suck something major anyway.

Lastly, guys, please try to understand, I am not saying the whole dynamic and impact of the scene should be changed turned into something it isn’t. I am not saying it should be more like the lightsaber fights before or after ANH, I am not saying it should have some fancy moves or force powers or anything like that. I am not even saying that it should be extended or something. (but like I previously mentioned, there are unused shots from different camera angles that could be used for that purpose) I am just saying it should be improved a bit, it should be better than this. Even just toning down the ridiculous parts a bit would be enough. (Especially that weird, pointless spin that has no place or purpose there.)

That move especially problematic and it is painfully obvious to anyone who has held a sword before. Since Ben doesn’t even hit anything with that spin (not to mention it is nearly impossible for him to hit anything outside a choreographed sparring) he just looks like an idiot who got lucky for not getting killed that instant. I mean who does something like that in front of their enemy? Either way, I am just gonna drop the issue. I don’t want to stretch this issue any longer than it deserves. I just hope you guys can see reason in this.

I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away..

If the PT really is as bad as people claim it is, then why are most of the online ratings on the mixed-to-positive side?

Of all the threads to ask that question…

Okay, I’m sorry. Let’s get back on topic.

I’d love to see somebody attempt a newly choreographed duel scene, should somebody have access to an ANH Vader costume and Obi-Wan’s Jedi robes. Just a couple shots to touch up little flaws and all, if also to make Obi-Wan look more formidable like how he managed to defeat Maul on Rebels.

And even after seeing how Vader took apart all those Rebels on Rogue One, maybe we could have a better duel after all. Dreams are for free I do digress…

I do believe it could work, if done well. But it would have to be done perfectly well, or it would look weird, odd and out of place. I don’t think the costumes are the problem, it is replicating the setting, with propper lights and camera work.

It should fit, but if it´s not 100% right. I would preffer to just leave the scene as it is or improve it some way else.

If anyone could pull something like that off, it would be Adywan!

With the exception of the BGM I think the scene is fine just the way it is in ANH:R, unless I’m missing something…

I think it’s great also, but I think the especially the new music is what makes it better! But if he can film a new scene, even better!

Well if I had known that…

¯\__(ツ)_/¯

I guess I can delete it from my MEGA account and use that storage for something else.

Any chances you will update planet by Death Star to match RO’s Scarif? Maybe debri from the two star destroyers. Just a thought.

Just watched SW:R again-I don’t think I’ll ever have any desire to watch any other version. One thing that still bugs me is Vader’s Tie Fighter and two escorts. The three stiff ships were clearly filmed attached together. Have you ever considered tweaking the motion of the two escorts so they all look independent of each other?

Why update planet below Death Star in ANH:R to match Rogue One’s Scarif?

Scarif is not the planet where the Death Star was built.

Scarif is not the planet where the Death Star was built.

But it is the planet they’re orbiting the day before ANH.

Not necessarily.

Rogue One does cause problems for ANH in the sense that they keep claiming that the Death Star is not yet “fully” operational.

The Death Star has lightspeed travel.

And the fully operational glitch can be corrected/explained away by stating that the Death Star went back to home base to take on more troops, ships (Ties and possibly a couple of Star Destroyers), other supplies, etc.

Just because the weapon was ready doesn’t mean that everything that was required for day-to-day operation of the battle station was ready/done.

Also, what Ady did for ANH:R would make no sense with all the activity buzzing around since the entire base on Scarif was destroyed by the Death Star. All the troops, officers and equipment gone.

My take is that the Death Star went into hyperspace and back to home base probably as soon as Darth Vader began pursuing the Tantive IV in the Devastator.
