Here’s a shot from the Tarkin/Leia confontation:

Why does this shot stick out so much from the rest? I think all the others look just amazing, but this one just seems wrong?

Stronger “sepia” tint in the skin tones.

I checked the frames, and you’re right, it’s too yellow:

Here’s a slight upgrade of the Tarkin shot:

Wow, I’m glad I said something, 'cause that looks great!

Okay, now tell if I’m being too critical, but is this one just ever so slightly too yellow as well?

That one actually isn’t. This scene is actually quite warm. While I can’t show you the frame, the 1977 bootleg while being a bit more yellow overall shows similar colors:

It’s amazing how these corrections are as beautiful as they are fast ! Is your source the raw Blu-Ray with the encoding error which blow the highlights out or a corrected version with the information recovered ?

I’m actually using Schorman’s 2004 HDTV preservation, as I already had it available on my external drive.

I like these very much too, DrDre. They blow the Bluray out of the water and then some. Two observations if I may:

  • 8th frame (Obiwan with hood up). The sky in this looks almost completely white - perhaps blown white - even after you lowered the brightness a little. The Bluray appeared to have more detail here: cloudier on the left, more blue on the right.

  • 10th & 22nd frames (Tarkin, Leia, Vader & X-Wing). Blacks look crushed in parts of these frames e.g. Vader’s cloak. This may well have been the case in the Bluray and/or my monitor is to blame!

On the technicolor print the sky is almost white, so this is accurate to the original color timing.

This is bluray crush. On the print scan this is not an issue.
