You read farther than me, I stopped at “I beg to differ” because I’ve heard it all before and I consider it all nonsense.

And it’s all in one big block of text.

Learn to use paragraphs, yotsuya.

TPM is maybe a 5/10.

At best.

I agree, so that’s why a good fanedit that pushes it up to maybe ao 7/10 is to me worth watching.

So you keep saying. We all get it.

Right…

Only way the PT can literally be cool if they freeze-dried it or left it in a meat locker. The Millenials who watched the PT when they were kids when this shite first released would consider it cool.

Yeah but this

Of course. I’m not saying fanedits can turn them into grand works of art even close to the level of the ot, but they can at least turn them into enjoyable movies that I can watch as a saga without having to sleep until the halfway point. (Meaning epiv)

I am wondering… Why are you here?

Because I give more of a shit about other movies I own on DVD/BD/UHD compared to Star Wars. Fucking hell, I import too.

That’s the joke.

But jokes are supposed to be funny.

Let’s face it, THE CLONE WARS CGI TV series managed to accomplish something Episodes II & III could never do. Made you care about Anakin. Oh yeah, because the actor received far better direction. Blame Lucas on not wanting to give proper direction to Hayden Christiansen.

+1, but only for the section I quoted.

Yotsuya’s hardly an apologist. He differs on that very specific point, then spends the rest of the post laying into the prequels for everything else. It’s possible to admit that there’s corn in a turd.

I thought this was a Star Wars site but by the look of a lot the new users here it doesn’t seem like that anymore.

I’ve been really weirded out recently by how much energy people have been expending on making sure everyone knows that they’re so totally over Star Wars.

Sure, OT.com has more to offer than just Star Wars, but why are you posting so much in the Star Wars part of it, if you don’t like it at all?

That’s the badge-wearing “I hate Star Wars!” “I hate Disney!” crowd, who hates any new Star Wars regardless of quality (but still of course sees all the new movies multiple times anyway).

Thought dump about this topic because I’ve wanted to post here since the first page but never got around to it. Rambles a bit.

Personal feelings explained first. I’ve been on OT.com a long time now, and have made no secret of the fact that I don’t care for the prequels as films. However, what I also make no secret of is how I’m fond of many of the designs. The ships, the planets, the world they build all have that Star Wars-y feel to me. Don’t care for the films, but they still give me some of that familiar feeling of a Galaxy Far, Far Away I love so much about the better movies. Even with all the fake politics, there’s something magical about it. They are a piece of my heart/childhood/etc. in a way that I imagine everyone here feels for the OT.

I think there’s a lot of people out there who take that feeling of “it’s Star Wars” I can still get from movies I don’t enjoy a lot farther than I do. For some people, any new Star Wars is great… even the prequels. Working with kids I can tell you if they enjoyed the series at all, they knew 1-6, even if they preferred one set of movies over the other.

Some people liked Rogue One, I didn’t, but that’s cool! Star Wars means so many different things to so many people. That’s part of what makes it so large a universe, it’s not just the planets, it’s that people in our world connect to each other through their love of this Galaxy. This and many other online communities with long-term members attest to that.

As for the article in question that started this thread? Eh. I think it’s overstating its points but there’s some that’s valid. There’s a point in the article about how if the PT isn’t the absolute last of the story, it stings less. There’s no desire for me to reevaluate them as they go on to suggest, but I vibe with that. Knowing I’ll have more Star Wars does kind of make the prequels leave a less distasteful feeling, if only because there’s more to come.
But overall it’s just a piece of clicbait on ScreenRant, not a super serious piece of journalism. The author obviously put some thought into it, but it serves a purpose. Clicks and reads. They knew that when they wrote it, too. It’s a job (and I know a few people who are quite damn good at it actually!)

Don’t put too much stock into it, but also remember, this is a bubble. There’ve always been lots of people who loved the prequels even back then.

That would explain all the people in dark sunglasses, hats, and coats who look like they’re in line at an X-rated movie theater. 😛

I’m done BUYING more Star Wars shit. I don’t mind seeing the movies and shows though. Got to be too expensive. In fact just to drive my opinion more soundly, I prefer Rogue One over The Force Awakens. Enjoyed both though.

The prequels had a few bright spots, but overall it was a dark time and I didn’t see an end it sight. The special editions and prequels had turned the Star Wars I loved into a big campy slapstick fart joke. Some complain The Force Awakens has too much in common with the Original Trilogy. That makes no sense to me. After 40 years had passed, the special editions, and the prequels, something that much like true Original Trilogy is exactly what was needed. I’d take TFA over any of the special editions any day.

Now that we have TFA and R1, I went back and revisited the prequels. I found I was able to enjoy the few bright spots a little more because at least I knew Star Wars has a brighter future than unnecessary CGI troopers and horrible dialogue. Still, I cant call the prequels good movies, but I do not feel the need to ignore their existence anymore.

Prequels becoming cool? Never. I think they would be great on the new Mystery Science Theater 3000. That would be cool.

A very mature, considered and wise post, I’ll definitely +1 it 😃

I don’t hate the prequels as a whole myself, I really cringe at many parts and mourn what could have been based on my own personal extrapolations and expectations before they actually came out, having a lot of faith at the time in George Lucas. I even really enjoyed TPM as a kid (always hated JarJar though) before realising later on through repeat viewings what a missed opportunity it was and how many parts are just plain bad and it only got worse from there in AOTC and ROTS. There are still some really good parts though and that’s why I guess I still persist in trying to constantly improve upon my definitive set of fan edits.

What made me really give up any hope for George though is what he did to the OT, his own ground breaking creations (that were also a collective collaborative effort that he seems to have little regard or respect for despite where it got him in the end) that started the love for this universe in the first place. Hate is not the right word but it really rubbed me the wrong way what he did to the point that I’m am glad he can no longer continue to screw up SW any more than he already has, even if it was to sell to Disney (which so far has mostly turned out pretty good). I will be forever greatful for what he first made and forever disgusted and enraged at the self vandalism he later proceeded to undertake on his own masterpiece…what a douche.

what a load of badly written pointless dribble. I haven’t heard anyone praise the prequels since they came out, and then it was the same crowd who could watch a movie in black and white. Now some of my friend who were going on about how great they were then, won’t even consider watching them.

Author

Being able to watch a movie in black-and-white is no mark of bad taste in films. Quite the contrary.

What would you say about people who watched movies that are… can you imagine it… silent?

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Based on how reasonable the rest of the comment is I suspect he meant to put couldn’t.

The people who really like the Prequels are also ones who wouldn’t watch a movie because it was in monochrome is what I think he meant.

I love silent movies. Metropolis, Nosferatu, Modern Times, Caligari, Broken Blossoms, the Toll of the Sea, Phantom of the Opera, the list goes on and on.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
