With the way many blockbuster are scheduled these days, the end of principle photography is hardly the 100% mark of filming. Yes, they were weeks away from the end of principle photography, but weeks of reshoots were already scheduled so I’d say they were only about halfway done. And if they weren’t getting enough coverage, they were even more behind than that. My guess is that is one of the major reasons they were sacked. If you don’t get enough coverage to start with, that increases the reshoots and increases the cost.

And GWTW had a major change of directors at the last minute. Director two (Victor Fleming) out of three got sole screen credit, but he didn’t finish the film. In this case I bet that Ron Howard is going to get considerable credit and is going to end up making the movie his way.
