Oh man, I’ve been in such a good Star Wars mood the last few months that I was actually softening a little in my heart on my stance against the prequels. I was even vaguely considering watching them again at some point, maybe as part of my pre-TLJ marathon. Then you had to go and post pictures of the things I had completely forgotten. (Seriously, I totally forgot everything about that awful droid factory scene).

Thank you for saving me from myself.

And prequels, I have a song dedicated just to you…

Never again, prequels. Never again.

Octorox’s hybrid edit of the first two and hals edit of 3 make them enjoyable to me. None of the scenes just pictured are in them.

Oh boy, the “giving-the-Prequels-one-more-chance” thing. That comes in my mind from time to time too. I have not seen the Prequels for quite a while now in order to forget them as good as possible. But on the other hand, i’m saying to myself: Hey, they can’t be that bad? Let’s rewatch them completely open-minded. I did this two times in the past … but those movies are not getting better

There was that scene with the rathtars and the smugglers confronting Han in TFA.

Perhaps the worst scene/series of scenes in TFA.

Agreed. One of the worst scenes in any Star Wars movie.

Swap out the Natalie Portman pic for one with the rathtars. It goes better with the rest.

Nope. A supposedly strong character dying because of a broken heart (especially immediately after having two babies to care for) is possibly the dumbest thing in the eight movies so far.

Change the droid’s line to “there have been complications and we can’t save her” or something like that. I tend to like the prequels, even with their many problems, but that one has always bothered me about ROTS. I’ll see if I can fix it when I finally get around to my fan edit. My two big problems with AOTC are that you don’t get any sense of Obi-wan and Anakin being buddies (Anakin is almost done with the Padawan phase so some hint of what we see at the beginning of ROTS should already be there) and C-3PO’s role in the droid factory. I liked the theatrical TPM, so my ideal edit would be along those lines but with CG Yodo (the puppet is the single least believable alien to get any major screen time).

Don’t you dare insult CPY! He and Ric Olie were the only two characters we could invest in.

Hey, I was invested in Watto and his struggles with gambling addiction. 😉

I would gladly wear all of these. But then, I’ve always loved Disney and I’ve loved Star Wars since 77. And I’ve loved just about every film Kennedy has been producer or executive producer on.

Weird goofy nonsense off-tone scene with bad cartoon CGI is the tie that binds all of those scenes and the rathtar abomination.

The stupid Portman plotline belongs next to classic TFA scenes like Captain Phasma lowering the shields, and people looking up at the sky and seeing stars get sucked up into a machine light years away in real time.

I love George Lucas and thank him for creating the greatest movie universe of all time, but it was obvious for whatever reason he just wasn’t the same guy he once was. Selling Star Wars to Disney is the best thing that could have happened.

Would you rather it ended up somewhere like Fox? They still can’t make a decent Fantastic 4 movie. Sony has done only slightly better with Spider-Man. Wonder Woman was great but the other DC movies from Warner Brothers could be used to teach a class on what not to do in filmmaking. Disney was the best place. I love what they have done so far. They may make a bad Star Wars movie one day, but I bet they will make many times more great ones.

It so funny to hear some talk as if they know so much about making a movie, then put down Kathleen Kennedy. I’m betting she learned more working with Spielberg on one movie that many of her detractors will ever know. When you look at the movies she has been involved with over the decades, I trust she has a pretty idea how to make a great a Star Wars movie.

There is probably a lot of confusion about what a film producer actually does. Some are very hands on, others almost never visit the set.
Replacing a director(s) this late in production is almost unprecedented. That this is a troubled production is not just in the eyes of fans, but the industry as well. This could seriously dent the career of a younger less experienced producer.

True, but many of her detractors just visit theaters and internet forums. Armchair producers?

We have a few members with ties to the industry, but I don’t think they have weighed in as of yet.

While it is highly unusual, it is hardly unprecedented. It has happened many times. Sometimes leading to unsalvagable results, but often (and the other Disney films that this has happened to in the past decade fall in this second category) they result in a resounding success. The classics Gone With The Wind, Wizard of Oz, and Spartacus are just a few, as are Toy Story 2, and Brave. And usually it is the director who gets replaced whose career suffers, not the producer.

Neither GWTW or Oz was mere weeks from being completed when their director’s were replaced. (And the circumstances of some of those film’s multiple directors leaving the production is different.) Spartacus’ original director was sacked after only a week of filming.

Which is made even worse when that “death by broken heart” is over sand hating hayden-anakin…pfft, yeah right! XD

Despite the gambling and proceeds of slavery, I actually felt sorry for Watto when he lost everything to Quigon and turning him to beggaring which is more than I can say for most other PT characters 😛 I mean it’s not like slavery looked an especially harsh life down on Tatooine and Watto seemed to actually show some level of care and responsibility towards Anakin while trying to make a living.

Watto seems down on his luck in AOTC, (yet he still has his shop) but I don’t think he’s a beggar. I think the flies were a bit too much though. 😉
He seems to be doing much better since Disney took over.

At least Ron Howard directed Willow. Was gonna go see this once in cinemas anyway and goes for the rest of the newer STAR WARS movies. If I want to see it again I’ll just rent the Blu-ray disc from Netflix. No reason to own it.

Ron has helmed many FX heavy movies since Willow. And he was innovative enough to shoot several scenes in Apollo 13 aboard the aircraft used to briefly simulate zero gravity for astronaut training. Can’t get more “practical” effects than that. 😃

Glad I own the remastered Blu-ray disc, eventually the UHD too, for APOLLO 13. (Still trying to sell the digital copy code.)
He also really understands characters too. Cocoon, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, Rush, etc.. Where it’s not solely focusing on the FX which delivers the film but everything else included.
So yes, I’m expecting this Han Solo film to be a character study with added FX shots to assist and compliment the story.
A an aside, I was gonna go see this no matter what and with Ron Howard having taken over directing duties, I’m more at ease with the premise.
