Mrs. Trump cares deeply about issues impacting women and children, and she has focused her platform as First Lady on the problem of cyber bullying among our youth.

I wonder how that’s going…

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came…
…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!

Naturally, Melania immediately condemned the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES (!) for cyberbullying.

Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN: “As the first lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”

Oh.

On a related note, I don’t understand how women like Kellyanne Conway or Sarah Huckabee Sanders can look themselves in the mirror and not just cringe for going along with this shit, and even more so for actively defending it.

For some, politics is how society decides how to govern itself. For others, it’s an acting gig where you read your lines and you get your check. For others, it’s a war that ends only when your enemy is destroyed. Take your pick.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2017/06/29/trump_s_misogynist_tweets_about_mika_brzezinski.html

When you’re under pressure, it can be harder to hide your true self. And Trump’s true self is a pig.

On Tuesday, Trump interrupted a phone call with Ireland’s Prime Minister to sexually harass an Irish journalist named Caitriona Perry. Calling her forward, he said, “And where are you from? Go ahead. Come here, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.” She stepped forward awkwardly and he looked her over. Then, returning to the call, he said with a smirk, “She has a nice smile on her face so I bet she treats you well.”

Trump’s insult of Brzezinski is the other side of this connoisseurship. To Trump, women’s worth lies in their fuckability; it’s why he’s praised his own daughter by saying he’d sleep with her if they weren’t related. Trump’s tweet was meant to make Brzezinski seem grotesque and pathetic, a failure in the struggle to remain attractive—the only struggle that, in his eyes, really matters for women. (Another Vanity Fair story alleged that he only let his third wife, Melania, have a baby on the condition that she would “get her body back.”) The reference to Brzezinski “bleeding badly,” of course, also recalls his claim that Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her whatever” when she aggressively questioned him during a debate; he instinctively projects his own revulsion toward menstruation onto women who threaten him.

I’m not sure that even well-intentioned men understand how relentlessly degrading this presidency is for many women. Having a man who does not recognize the humanity of more than half the population in a position of such power is a daily insult; it never really goes away. Perhaps this is why many women found the TV version of The Handmaid’s Tale so resonant, even though Trump, the former owner of a casino strip club, is the last person one can imagine instituting a Calvinist theocracy. Gilead’s fictional dystopia captures our constant incredulous horror at finding ourselves ruled by thuggish, unaccountable woman-haters who appear to revel in their own impunity.

Hawaii is already challenging the reinstated travel ban.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/lawyers-immigrant-groups-brace-enforcement-trump-travel-ban-n778361

Just hours after the Trump administration’s travel order went into effect, the state of Hawaii went to federal court Thursday to challenge it, saying the order barred too many people.

In a message on its website, the State Department initially defined “close familial relationships” as parents (including in-laws), spouses, children, adult sons and daughters, sons- and daughters-in-law, siblings, half-siblings and step-relations.

On Thursday, it added fiancés to the approved list. But the definition still excludes grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law and any other “‘extended’ family members.”

In an emergency motion (PDF) filed Thursday in Honolulu, Hawaii Attorney General Douglas Chin asked U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson to rule that the order doesn’t block people with those relationships, either. Specifically, it says an injunction that Watson issued against the original order in March — which the Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday partly overturned — should be put back in place pending final clarification.

“In Hawaii, ‘close family’ includes many of the people that the federal government decided on its own to exclude from that definition,” Chin said in a statement. “Unfortunately, this severely limited definition may be in violation of the Supreme Court ruling.”

Seems like none of the news really has an effect on me anymore.

Probably because you can’t see it while you’re bleeding from your face.

That’s a very weird euphemism.

On a related note, my local grocery store stopped carrying National Enquirer after who knows how many decades. I haven’t thanked them yet, but I plan to let them know.

Look! Completely coincidental smear campaign!

Batboy was funny. Demon-possessed appliances were funny. This Pravda-esque propaganda outlet bullshit? Not funny.

They both cheated on Trump.

Is cheating against the law?

It turns out loyalty pledges aren’t legally binding, so that’s next on the agenda.

Batboy was Weekly World News.

I kind of miss this crazy rag gracing the supermarket checkout rack. Always good for a laugh.

Celebrity dirt used to be the Enquirer’s territory. They were successfully sued by Carol Burnett in the 80’s.

My only hope is that for every Mika and Joe, there are a thousand other Trump-voting Republicans who are finally realizing that the guy is a trainwreck at every level.

If, like Mika and Joe, they have to invent stories that he only recently started being horrible, fine. It’s absolute nonsense, but fine. I suppose they have to assuage their guilt for helping get Trump elected in the first place somehow, and it’s better than pretending to be a Bernie supporter and posting on Internet discussion boards. As long as they feel this way through the midterms, and don’t forgive-and-forget the moment all the money from other people’s healthcare makes its way into the “Relief For Billionaires Suffering From the Embarrassment of Poorly-Lit Tennis Courts Act of 2018”.

Or a Trump supporter.
